Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Holiday Gift Ideas....

So the holidays are right around the corner and very soon, family (some who know our plan, and some who don't) will be asking us what we want for Christmas.  Since we've started our purging process and don't want to add anything more to the list, we would like to get some ideas of those "must have" gifts that would be good to put on the list.  I saw some lists out there on blogs, etc. that referenced what to get a full-time RV'er (http://www.technomadia.com/2012/11/gift-giving-guide-for-full-time-rvers/ and http://wheelingit.wordpress.com/2012/12/09/5-cool-rv-christmas-gifts-for-under-50/) and is useful to a point, but since our departure date is a little over a year out, some of the items are not as relevant yet.    So, what suggestions does everyone have...in particular for things that would be useful in our soon-to-be lifestyle?  Thanks in advance!!

Put a few Thousand in the savings account for those unexpected breakdowns. Money always helps! A good Rv service manual for the Do-it-yourselfer. A nice set of pots and pans made of Corelle for the Missies; maybe a dish set made of Corelle also. Just be careful as to how much weight you add to the RV. Should I ever do it again an I-pad or tablet to make notation of where I sowed everything so I would not have to spend so much time searching.

Thanks for linking to our holiday gift list post.

A think a year out would be difficult, unless you yourself have some firm ideas on the things you want to start acquiring. But unless you have your rig already purchased and are actively stocking it - then you don't know your storage space yet, or what accessories you'll need to add to what will come with your RV.

Also, any technology purchased now could most likely be obsolete by the time you hit the road.

Any membership purchases would likely be expired by then.

My suggestion would be things that help your life for the next year or preparing, but yet not add clutter to your purge piles.

Maybe gifts to help relieve stress during the prep process, such as gift certificates to things around town you enjoy (spas, massages, dinners, etc.). If your gift givers are local to you, perhaps experiences together to share quality time before you leave - tickets to a show, a local attractions, promises of time to help you purge/clean/run errands, etc. If they're far away, perhaps 'to be redeemed' experiences for when you visit in your RV? Or perhaps the gift of promising your treasured items (art, heirlooms, etc) happy new homes to help make your purging easier emotionally?

Best wishes,
- Cherie

Those are great ideas Cherie! Since we are also 18 - 20 months from take-off I'll be sharing several of them with our families! I also have a wish list on Amazon with mostly Squishie brand kitchenware (the silicone expandable pieces) and accessories for our recumbent bikes (which we can use now too). The best thing has been making sure our family and friends know our plans and that we just have no desire for more house/yard "stuff". They are all supportive and feel (correctly so) like they are contributing to our future when they give us something that "fits" our plans.

If anyone has any spare change laying around; I could use a newer RV! LOL! The old 88' Class C has seen better days!

Really; a Camping World Catalog will give you plenty of Ideas; just to expensive to shop there! PIEERE

If you are still working to get your house ready to go on the market, gift certificates to Lowe's, Home Depot, or places to buy staging items could come in very useful and from a practical standpoint save you some cash out of your pocket that you would rather be spending on your dream.

Love this idea!  Just last night one of my sons called and asked what to get us for Christmas and told him we'd get back to him.  Now I have the answer :)
