Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Anyone install a fireplace in their 5er lately?

I say, "lately," because I found one thread by someone who had done this, but all the pics were deleted.

We are considering a pre-owned 5er which has not fireplace.  It would be nice to have one, but since this one does not, I was wondering if we can find one to install and how difficult the installation might be?

Thanks for the generosity of your time!

A simple zero clearance electric fireplace will fill a double cabinet nicely.............I have an electric wood stove type that I carry from unit to unit

Any brands that you can recommend? How about the wiring?

wiring is a 15 amp dedicated circuit.........home depot carries the units , I dont recommend brands.....price that fits your budget is what your looking for..............brands are made for those that want to keep up with the Jone's..... compare the warranty of what you like with others , how easy will it be to get it serviced , how long is the warranty for.......how easy is it to set up and operate. to give you an Idea...Whirlpool , Maytag , Kenmore, all offer the same product made on the same assembly line for a different price and different warranty ...all to buy the same machine with the console panel changed....

Two units back when we had a 28 ft. Travel trailer with a counter behind the dinette and two useless stools, Jesse & I went to Home Depot and found an electric fireplace that would fit right under the counter. It backed to an electric outlet below one of the bench seats so with some simple modifications and some stain to make it match the existing woodwork, he installed it. Worked great. Sorry no pictures.

Our 5th Wheel did not come with the Fireplace option, we bought the same brand / model the OEM used (from a EBay RV Surplus Company) so it would fit the opening just by removing the cabinet doors and shelf.

One nice thing is the manufacturer did pre-wire for a fireplace, there was a dedicated 15 Amp plug behind the cabinet that was connected to a 15 Amp breaker marked Fireplace in the fuse panel.

We have been surprised by the open storage beside the fireplace, nothing has ever fell out of it in our Travels.

The only problem is the storage bins are pretty deep and sometime stuff will get lost back there.

Another option is a fireplace that hangs on the wall like a flat screen TV. It's only a few inches thick doesn't require tearing into cabinets.

I mounted an electric fireplace in place of three large drawers in a cabinet under the counter where our TV is located. I was able to plug the cord from the fireplace into the same outlet used by the TV. It took just a few hours to get the fireplace in place and finish out a storage cabinet behind the fireplace.
