Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Washer stays damp

I'm loving my little stackable W/D, but the washer keeps condensation on the door and seal. Is this normal? What did you do with it? I don't want it to mildew.

open the door when not in use......they also sell a cleaner for front loaders in the grocery store that works well to keep the mold out

We have one of the Whirlpool front loaders.  When Jo is finished with washing clothes, she uses a wash cloth to wipe the clear door and the rubber seal.  She then folds the wash cloth in half and lays it at the bottom of the seal and closes the door,on the wash cloth.  It won't latch with the cloth there, but it also soaks up any moisture that may remain on the "window."  The rubber seal on the Whirlpool also has a "slot" that runs around the circumference of the door and she also wipes that out with the wash cloth.

I have to use the tabs that Mike is talking about in my Maytag at home on a monthly basis. They are called "affresh" washer cleaner and they are a replacement for using bleach which is an alternative but I cannot open a bottle of bleach without getting it on something. I find them rather expensive and hope they come out with something generic. I am cheap. They also have these tabs for dishwashers. Generally if the gaskets on the door stay wet, they will get the black mold in the folds but that does depend some what on one's location in the country too. Vinegar gives a good wipe down also. I use tons of white vinegar.

Thanks for your comments. This is disappointing, as the sliding door won't close without the W/D doors being closed. Maybe I'll try putting my little fan (that I used for my shower stall) on it to dry it while the dryer is going and see if that helps.

I do what Terry's wife does and do not find it to be much of a bother. Also you can toss a couple of dry hand towels into the washer which will help to dry out the air inside there. ps...those dry towels help the dryer to work faster when you toss them in with your wet load to dry. Honest Pat K

I've had the same problem with my stackable washer.  I use the washer cleaner on a regular basis also.  I've also found that putting a small "Damp Rid" container in the washer helps with both the condensation as well as the smell.  Just make sure you take it out before you wash a load though... :)  Good luck!

I have had a front load washer at home for 7 or 8 years (love it). I find the best method is to leave the door cracked when not in use. However, since this is not an option for you, I would also suggest drying carefully before closing and using a commercial washer cleaner at least once a month. I use the Tide version and it works very well, since I have noticed over time that even when keeping door cracked some odor develops. The cleaner takes care of this very nicely. I am sure a small amount of water must "lay" underneath the drum when it is not running. Good luck.

They told me to leave the door open about one inch and I haven't had any odor from the front loaders, if you use the washer every day you shouldn't have any odor, if you go days without using the washer with the door closed it will smell, it doesn't take long, take it from me I have been in the laundromat business going on 23 years, I have 60 washer and dryers all different sizes.

About the water in the lower drum, the drum rumps down at the bottom, all water should run out, a little bit will stay in the pump, you will have a wet drum, if you close the door it will stay wet, I do all the repairs myself and I'm good, LOL!!!! Almost all the time I repair a machine I'll stand back and look and say I saved this much money and do the happy dance, LOL!!!!

On the advise of some here, I bought the Afresh tabs, and am very happy with the results. And I didn't really think I had a problem, but the washer really does look and smell sparkly clean. :-0 Glad I tried them. Pat K
