Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Ready to take the leap!

A big hello from Maryland!  Hubby and I have been happily married for 22 years and travel with a 5 year-old Chocolate lab/Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix named Mocha.  We are both from Lumberton, NC and recently built our PT "retirement" home there which consists of a 1700 sq ft garage (to house all the big kid toys for hubby, brothers, and a host of nieces and nephews - we currently have 3 Harley's, 5 4-wheelers, a mustang and someone's furniture stored in there??) along with a two bedroom apartment on top which we completed in January 2012.  Due to family illnesses, we usually drive from Maryland to NC every other weekend so having our own place has been nice.  If we would have thought ahead we could have just built the garage and purchased the RV a little sooner - hindsightbleh!

Hubby is retired from the Army and recently switched government jobs to join the DoD as a civilian.  I'm a planner (was government consultant and military community planner) but found myself without a job last November.  I decided to take the rest of the year off to spend time with family and friends and enjoy the stress-free holiday's without 12 hour work days and I'm still loving it!

We bought our first RV - a 1997 Damon Ultrasport diesel pusher with 37K miles in great condition in June.  We flew down to Florida and purchased it from friends of the family who had quit traveling due to their age/health.  They helped us get set up in the Southern Oaks Campground at the Villages and showed us the ropes.  I believe they both had tears in the their eyes when we headed home to Maryland in their baby but they knew it was going to be loved and put to good use!  Luckily hubby drove tanks and busses during his time in the Army so he was a natural in the RV!

Forward two months and the house in Maryland has been painted, power-washed and listed on the market. This past weekend, we moved the RV down to Ft. AP Hill in Virginia and got it set-up for full-time living.  Hubby's office is moving from the Pentagon to Quantico, so we decided to take the leap to sell the house and live in the RV. Our ultimate goal is to be able to completely quit work, go on the road full-time and still have a homebase in NC close to family when needed.

Still have tons of packing, selling, donating, and tossing to do but hope to have an offer by end of Summer.  In the meantime, hubby will be in the RV and Mocha and I will maintain the house and drop in to surprise him from time to time.  Nice to "meet" all of you and safe travels wherever the road leads!

Welcome to the site. There are a lot of friendly and knowledgeable people on this site that I have learned a lot from so you have any questions feel free to ask.

I see that you live in Maryland. I have lived in Colorado for the past 7 years however I grew up in Cambridge, Maryland.

Vicki and Dwight,

Welcome to the RV Dreams forums.  I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank Dwight for his service in the military.  A lot of us here are vets.  As such, we also appreciate the sacrifices that the wives made in order for their husbands to serve.  So, we thank both of you for your service and sacrifices.

Feel free to ask questions, use the "Search" function up in the blue bar above the forums, and also check out the rest of Howard and Linda's website.  They have posted a lot of information out there and the folks here on the forums also have a lot of knowledge.

Good luck with your planning and your future RV'ing.

Terry

Thank you everyone for the welcome. When we travel we would like to bring a trailer with a car and motorcycle (cheaper than the hydraulic lift). Do most rv parks and state campgrounds have a place for the trailer?? Some of the places we have stayed do but we haven't been to too many. Thanks

Liz,

It appears that you have responded to another participant's introductory thread and have also introduced a question that is not related to the original poster's comments.  I suggest that you start your own introductory thread or place your questions into another category where it is relevant.

Along that line of thinking, to avoid "hi-jacking" LandL Partners' introduction, I ask other participants to not answer Liz's questions here.  Allow her to start a new thread so we can dedicate our comments to the appropriate threads.

Thanks in advance.

Terry
