Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hi everyone, I'm 44 and just about to get divorced but no worries! It's a good thing for ALL of us and has been coming for a LONG TIME! Lol
I am mom to 2 Great Danes, a yellow lab and 5 cats! But I also have 3 boys, 2 of which are grown but one lives in Nebraska and the other is in the Army, stationed in Arizona. We currently live in Texas and my youngest homeschools via an online accredited high school. I am lucky that a large portion of my income is from working over the phone so my son and I can live anywhere. And that's been an issue trying to decide exactly where to move TO this coming spring (2014) after the divorce is final. So instead of moving someplace we aren't sure we will love or not, we've decided to do what I've wanted to do for 15 years now... Live on the road! Or at least live up north in the summer and Arizona in the winter. It's also the only way I can figure out how to keep all of our fur family with us as you know there isn't a person out there who is going to rent us a house with that many animals. Lol
So... the hunt for our "home" is officially starting. Although I've lurked on all sorts of forums about living on the road, I've never thought my dreams would ever come true. But here we are! And as much as I thought that the decision as to what to do with my life and my family's future was tough, I've realized that was the easy part. Trying to figure out where to get the money and what to buy is going to be TOUGH! Once we have everything I'm sure my son and I will easily roll with the punches and we both are actually looking forward to lots of boondocking (once we figure out the phone and internet issues). We are kinda what you might call, closet survivalists, so we don't mind going without some of the luxuries from time to time.
And that leads me to my question for ya'll! It looks like I'm going to have around $3,000 cash for a truck and a 2013 Chevy Equinox (worth about $24,000) as trade in for our new "home". I think a 5th wheel is the best bet but I'm open to suggestions. We've agreed that there HAS to be 2 separate/private-ish living areas (I'm thinking the bunkhouse style?). It also has to be 4 seasons as we 'may' spend next winter in Idaho or Montana. I look forward to any and all suggestions!
Welcome to the RV Dreams forums. You will find this a place to get lots of information from some very knowledgeable people, so feel free to ask away. Since we all tend to learn from each other, others can learn from your questions and comments.
You've certainly given yourself a challenge to find an RV and truck that will meet your needs and your budget, especially one that will also be four seasons and bunkhouse style, but there are some travel trailers out there that might work for you. However, to get truck and trailer will be a challenge.
Good luck with your research and planning.
Terry
