Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
In our research of what we want to get, one thing my wife is concerned about is having to overnight in an area where we can not open the slides, but still need to have access to everything. In some models that have bedroom slides, the bad slides up against the dresser and has no access to the drawers or space to walk around. In your opinion, is this a problem? Have you every been in a place overnight or longer that you couldn't open the slide?
We have only been fulltime for a little over a year but we have never been in a spot we could not open a slide. But we have never stayed in a parking lot like a Walmart where I know they frown on things like that but if we ever do and want to get into a drawer I would not worry about opening a slide for a min. or two.
We have been in camp sites where we had to pay close attention to tree's before opening slides but that can be common depending on the type of camping you like.
One of our criteria in choosing a floor pan was being able to get to certain areas with the slides in. It make for easier traveling and if we ever decide to over night at a truck stop, Walmart or other road side stop area we can keep the slides in. Also makes easier to stock up when getting groceries. The areas we"must have" to get to with slides in are refrigerator, toilet, one or both sinks, and bed. Dresser drawers are not a must have as long as you plan ahead where you put clothes when traveling and you can get to some of the cabinets or a closet.

In our 1998 Newell 2 slides, we can access everything with both slides in. If stopping for 1 night or in bad weather we will frequently not open the slides.
They are out there you just gotta spend some time looking. If you find one you like ask the salesperson to close the slides. Then look at it again closer.
Having access to the refrigerator and the bathroom is real handy when stopping at a rest area. That way you can use your own facilities and make your own refreshments. Not having access would be a deal breaker for me just from a convenience point of view.
My particular case demands it, as I could not make the walk from the trailer parking area to the rest room. My mobility cart would be a real pain to unload with the trailer hooked up. I can make the walk of 20 feet to my trailer and MY stuff.
