Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Driving on Wyoming State Highway 789 I-80 to I-70

Next week we are making a short trip from our place in Mancos, CO to Cheyenne, WY.  The trip up I am taking US160 to Del Norte, CO; US285 from Del Norte to Denver then I25 to Cheyenne. I've made the Mancos to Del Norte to Denver trip a number of times and it is no problem going east. Coming back I'm not to thrilled about going west through Wolf Creek Pass (done it many times in autos and pickups) so I am thinking about running west out of Cheyenne on I-80 then coming south on WY state highway 789 through Craig, Meeker and finally to Rifle, CO on I-70. Then I-70 to Grand Junction then down US550 to Ridgeway; then cut off to go through Telluride to Mancos. I've made the run from GJ thru Telluride to Mancos so I know what Lizard Head Pass is like. Definately not going to make the Ouray to Silverton to Durango route on 550. Done that way to many times in my pickup and it is never fun.

BUT - has anyone made the run down WY789 from I-80 to I-70?

Doesn't look too bad on Google map, but you never know.

Thanks in advance.

I've made this trip a few times but never towing an rv, its pretty flat and uneventful down to Craig (visit the gunfighter museum while there), then between Craig and Meeker there's a small pass, I think its called sleepy cat mountain. South of Meeker about 20 miles there is a fairly steep decent into Rifle. Its a pretty drive once your south of Craig, from I-80 to Craig is all sagebrush.

Thanks for the info. Still working on which route of travel we will be taking. Like to take the back roads when available but practical. Again, thanks for the info.
