Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Out of state workers/contractors living in campgrounds

Here at the campground, there are currently at least five full-time contractors that will be here until at least April of 2014 and at least four more rolling in by the end of the month. They leave before sunrise and get back well after dark.

I was wondering when they get their laundry done............don't they get tired of eating fast food or restaurant food?  What about menial tasks such as paying bills, writing checks, banking (which, who doesn't do their banking on line anymore....) shopping....etc etc etc.

I was going to say like "Rent A Wife" but that sounds........illegal....and immoral!!

You know what I mean.

I know we have discussed providing services such as hairdressing and dog sitting...........I'd bet some of these guys would pay money for somebody to do their errands and cook a great meal even to stick in the freezer for later........and Im a great cook, if I don't say so myself.  biggrin

This is what happens when I sit around with nothing to do all day.

Share your thoughts, good, bad, indifferent. You can even tell me this is by far the silliest thing you have ever read.....

Thanks

When I worked in construction I learned that many of the single guys had no trouble eating the same food every day and living in something as small as a truck camper. They had a schedule, which did include a stop at the tavern after work for drinks, conversation and dinner. One tavern had chicken gizzards one night and chicken liver another, cheap. It was popular with the construction workers. They were happy, they did not need variety.

Most people are now paid either via direct deposit or reloadable Visa/Mastercard gift cards, no checks are cut. ATM machines are open 24/7. Many stores are also 24/7, including Super Wal-Mart. What expenses require checks anymore?

Mary...

I have and still do , have cleaning done.....haircuts.. Laundry..grocery delivery....dog sitting & bathing(Dog)

Each of these I pay for to have done and am thankful someone within the RV community is available to offer these services

a little ingenuity and there is alot of ways to make a good income stream out here..

I have been making Carved camp signs and do very well with it.....most campgrounds so far have given me my site with full hook-ups for free just to set up and take care of there campers for the week!!

I would talk with some of the guys that are there it could be a good small income for you

I think offering personal assistant services (the more PC version of 'rent a wife' :) ) - is a fantastic idea.

Heck, there are days when we're nose deep on a work project.. that having dinner, clean laundry & groceries magically appear at our doorstep would be something we'd gladly hire a fellow RVer for.

Thank you for the more PC version.  I type what I think and that just spilled out onto the page. wink

The guys here are mostly road crew and work for the same guy, who is also here.  You cannot tell me a guy wouldn't pay to have his laundry done and folded.....not that in my wildest dreams did I EVER think I would be doing some strangers laundry.......*ish*  May have to give that particular service a second thought. haha.

Interesting...................

I would definitely take advantage of a cleaning service. I currently have a housekeeper who comes in every 2 weeks just to scrub things down. I know there's a huge difference between my s&b house and a trailer, but still.... I'd be happy to pay someone to mop, vacuum and scrub the bowl!

Question - how do you advertise your services at the campground?

Now you are making more sense.   Hopefully you don't find out that they are all stopping by someone's house after work who is feeding them and doing their laundry.

Scrappy,

Great idea!! Go for it. My only concern would be your potential liability in case someone thought in those terms but we hire a pet sitter here and pay well. We're going for a few days again in August and we already have her booked. When our pup sees her outside she starts crying and HAS to go love her up!

It was just a thought.  Today I am back in the executive position search mode.  Tomorrow, maybe Ill be in "sure, Ill do some strangers laundry" mode again. lol.

Having too much unstructured time is not good for the Scrapster.

Hi Mary I am a Heavy Highway Superintendent and I have been living in various campgrounds for over the last 9 years, its not easy to keep up on the laundry & shopping somtimes if the schedule demands 7 days. However that is very rare so I schedule my to do list for Sunday's, laundry (usally washers & dryers at campgroung) Shopping, food & other needs. As for banking I do almost all bill paying on line.

I guess you can say life is what You make it, I enjoy what I am doing so I guess it makes everything ok.
