Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Congratulations, Jane! You are so inspiring... to all of us! I watched all of your videos above and I love following your travels. I truly admire your determination and tenacity. I could NEVER do what you are doing. You go girl!!!
Best wishes are being sent your way and, above all, safe travels!

I have been off forum for a week or two, so as not to jinx my escape... keeping a low profile, and slipping past the "evil forces" that seemingly wanted to keep me trapped in California. (Remember my last attempt, when I got 3 flat tires, the truck and trailer fishtailed, and I totaled it, 20 miles out?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPSii-bS9PE)
Anyways, I took a week to get from Santa Rosa CA to Carson City NV. I went the long way around, to avoid the steepest Sierra grades, especially since this was my first trip driving this Class A beast (you know, in some ways, towing a trailer is easier, feels more like normal driving. I was the one holding up traffic, driving like a little old lady.) Thanks to everyone for all the advice, I remembered to use my engine to slow down on the steep grades (only encountered two 1-2 mile long 6% grades, a few others not marked) I went 120-150 miles a day, (which took my like 4-5 hours!) and I stayed each place 2-3 days.
I have a dog trainer lined up to address Toto's aggression, I need to get to the DMV and register the RV, and also, come up with some more ideas to keep my independent income up! But so far, Carson City seems nice, there is a shopping center within walking distance with a Trader Joe's, Petco, Marshall's, Sprint, Verizon, Radio Shack, Walmart, and World Market, everything I need within walking distance.
Here are some of my You Tube videos I took along the way. None are longer than 7 minutes.
Yeah, it's feeling pretty good, just the $$$ is a little scary without a "day job". But I do feel I am out from under the "dark cloud" of NorCal.... where I am parked here in Carson City is cheaper, and much nicer neighborhood (no premium rents for section 8 hoods, like in California. Haven't spotted any drug addicts or prostitutes yet; in Santa Rosa, I got to watch that all day out my window!)
Anyways, feeling optimistic! Check out my videos, Mount Shasta is lovely, I think I may try and spend next summer in the mountains over there (as a tax free Nevada resident!)
Bill, I imagine myself more like Mad Max from Road Warrior. (Some of the folks I met in California, you'd understand why. I lived for 20 years just miles from Bohemian Grove, and at the Chico flea market, I was the only NOT 50+ lbs overweight, and covered in demon tattoos! )
Mary Sunshine, just say, yes I can! Do or die! (Really, imagine it's a matter of life or death! ) You believe in equal rights, right? That women can do anything a man can do? (Yes we can, but we do need to be more cautious. I had one creep at the Chico flea market really probing for info about where I was going, and if I was alone; I told him I was traveling to meet my military husband, with my mean little dog. )
Right now, I need to get busy with establishing residency in Nevada to escape Cal-taxes, and also, get back on the ball with my online business, and use my computer nerd skills to boost sales.
I may start using the Google Blogger account to post pictures. Where I am now, for the next few months, is at the edge of Carson City, wide desert vistas within sight. It's very quiet here, but everything I need is within walking distance. I'm paying $380 a month plus electric, for a very clean, nice park, with laundry, pool, tennis and basketball courts, free wifi and cable TV. My space has a picnic table, a tree, and a small, rock yard. (Just wondering how much the air conditioner will cost) In Santa Rosa, I was paying $550 to rent at a dealership, had to keep a "sold" sign on the rig, and didn't dare sit outside, due to the customers passing by, as well as the homeless and criminal element next door.
Anyways, that's all in the past, re-adjusting my energy to a new life! Yeah!
CONGRATS on getting out of CA!! I like the warf, SF, and San Jose area...but last time I was there on the warf was a bushwhacker that scared ppl by hitting them with a limb when they walked by. I didnt make any friends that day when he hit me and I grabbed the limb from him and hit him back with it saying: have you done lost your mind? My friends that live out there didnt mention that he was a normal fixture..shame on them!!
I loved your youtube videos... I have never seen a puppy like yours. He is so cute!! I had to laugh when he got all tied up in the seat belt and kinda looked at you like: Mom seriously I have no clue how this happened!! He needs a blog of his own for his travels and adventures.
Yeah, SF is pretty much completely over run with hard core mentally ill; I knew several people who were attacked, one coworker went for a nice little day in SF, got attacked by a crazy homeless guy, and was knocked down and hit her head on the sidewalk. An ambulance was called, she was OK, but had to foot a $1,500 bill! She was like, "If the city won't do anything about these people running wild, then the city should foot the bill when they attack tourists!" The situation is spreading throughout urban California, due to social services policies (I know, I worked in that biz, why I wanted to escape California!)
Yeah, my dog.... he's got an expressive little face! You should look at "Hairless Dog Hates Printers". I wish I had the camera yesterday before he woke up; he was snoring, and his cheeks were blowing out and making farty noises, just like a cartoon! He is a Xoloitzcuintli (Mexican Hairless). He is getting "doggie charm school" starting Monday; he's cute, but has some aggression issues. He's coming along though, he has learned "Be nice" and "No barking". In Mount Shasta, he actually wanted to go out, and meet people, and let a lady pet him (and feed him treats, even exchange! )
Congrats on your escape. However, you may not be far enough away. They posted a wanted poster for you this morning. The charge is, revenue jumping. They claim you are the latest in a rash of escapees from our little asylum here on the coast. You were too bold. You should have used that Underground Railroad thing.

Welcome to Nevada, I know you feel, and yes enjoy yourself in Carson City, While you are there, Check out Virginia City, and Lake Tahoe they are so beautiful. There are many events that will be happening soon. Right around the Corner is Hot August nights which is an awesome car show all over Reno, CArson and I believe expanded to TAhoe. Then September is Street Vibrations if you like bikes all over the place also, It is a lot of fun. I love to ride my bike mostly at that time. Look around enjoy yourself. DMV is even close to where you are at too. Right down the street if I recall that RV park which you are staying at. Have a blessed day and enjoy yourself.

Hi Angel, the DMV is about 3 miles away, will get on that next week, after meeting with the dog trainer Monday. I know, I've got to get out, and see some sights, I tend to hole up at the computer, trying to earn a living! There is a flea market in S. Lake Tahoe, and they include camping in the $17 seller fee, so I see myself at the lake, at least for a few weekends! I don't have any wheels except this beastly Class A, so I am looking into the bus routes, and fortunately, there is an awesome shopping center maybe 1/4 mile away, with everything you need for general living (food, clothes, Petco, Walmart, cellphone, bank...) I may try and stay in the RV park at Virginia City sometime before I head further south for the winter!
Mark, believe me, I know, I'm afraid "the Forces of Evil" tried stopping me once, with those blown tires and a totaled truck, but I prayed myself up, and kept a low profile all the way here! Now, to change my name, burn off my finger prints, and start wearing contacts to avoid the retina scans.... Hmmm, all that probably won't work anyways, They can just track me with my credit cards and cellphone GPS. Am I being paranoid? You try living in California, especially the SF bay area! Smiley face liberal Stepford Borg.... resistance is futile, you will assimilate, and join the collective...
....I saw my first hippie there in Golden Gate Park on one of those Oriental arched bridges back in the '60's.
I turned after meeting them on the bridge to look back at them and a person behind me looked at me, smiled, and asked me, "Was that your first sighting?" I think my mouth was gaping open.
Sadly, San Francisco has changed a lot since then. I'd also likely be looking to leave that area if I lived near there now.

"CHARACTER is doing the right thing when no one is looking"
Hey, one good thing I just learned about Carson City... they don't put fluoride in the water! Won't have to break out the serious filter just yet! I've been here 2 days, and have not seen any chemtrails yet either, just blue skies and puffy clouds. The entire SF bay area gets sprayed constantly, hardly ever any blue skies (and that's not the natural weather, it's the "weather remediation" where they spray barium, zinc oxide and aluminum for us all to breathe in. A blue sky starts, and here come the planes...) I also have a patch of desert within walking distance, nothing is fenced off, I'll need to take some pics and videos!
I don't have any wheels except this beastly Class A, so I am looking into the bus routes....
Jane, is a bicycle a viable option to get around? Due to my arthritis, walking and even biking is a little difficult for long distances, but my plan is to invest in a folding electric bike which I can either pedal or use bursts of electric for hills and when I get tired. I understand they have a charge up to about 20 miles, so that would be ideal for getting around the campground and into the nearest town. If it folds, then storage won't be much of an issue. You did mention in previous posts that you are in great physical shape, so electric shouldn't be an issue for you. But what a standard or mountain bike?

I could get a bike, but I like walking, and don't have a problem with the bus. I have a You Tube friend with one of those folding electric bikes, very nice, but also very pricey; $1,500 new. Even regular bikes can cost hundreds of dollars. (Nice mountain bike? $800!!) My knees get a little sore sometimes, but keeping active is good, even for arthritis (I think I have a little tendonitis) But thanks for the thought, if I come across a nice folding bike for a reasonable price, I might snatch it up, because I have thought about it! (But can I get my knucklehead dog to ride with me?)
I had 2 siberians that were pets (family members) along with I worked with them for my daughter to "mush" during the winter. For the summer I bought 2 skateboards and duct taped them together. (spent a whole 35.00 for that). I was able to run them along with the ability to jump off the boards if something went wrong and I would be able to stop on a dime. I only put 1 dog in the harness at a time but after a run they were very mellow and ready to spend another half hour with me learning commands and training. I still did my daily walks with the girls for my health (and potty breaks)...but 2xs a day they were pulling me on the skateboards the jumping and the automatic slip out the door to run ceased. First thing in the morning after a daily potty and prior to breakfast they ran....then just before bed.
I didnt care that I looked funny on a duel skateboard... I didnt want to be on a pair of rollerblades that I wasnt able to stop. Even after they were well behaved little girls I still kept up the skateboard routine. They enjoyed it along with after they got their breakfast, then an hour later they went for a walk and training. After a couple weeks, Cheyenne knew the routine... Meeko took almost a month. (but I didnt start them until after they were a year old)
I forgot to add... I did work 10 hrs a day back then.. hense asking Mike about the bolting. Because when I let Meeko or Cheyenne in the house for 8 hours it was not a pretty site.
I did see that you had a harness for Toto. If you can go to a walmart... go and find the cheapest skateboard available. (u can always return it) Just get 1 to start with and let him run and keep commanding him while he is doing his run.
Oh, Toto is still learning to walk on a leash, he also has the habit of turning around to jump on me, or stopping to sniff and listen. He needs more confidence in general, he gets hypervigilant and paranoid when he gets into new situations. But we are going farther (than 50 feet) on our walks, yesterday, we made it all the way to the end of the park, into a patch of desert, and this moring, he went out at dawn, and made it across the street to the parking lot of the city park. But yes, more walks and running for the dog! We are meeting with a dog trainer in 1/2 an hour. Here is a cute new video of my "hunting dog": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0mTTIA_ogE&feature=c4-overview&list=UUk6Er7yulS7OdYGtEonn65Q

I also saw on another post the problems you're having with dmv, and the dealer. may i ask where you purchased your rig, as we do look up dealers there from time to time, and would like to stay away from that one. I certainly hope all gets staighted out soon. enjoy carson city, as it does have some charm! michele
