Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Problems caused by sequester?

Just wondering... with the major cutbacks going on due to the sequestering, funds have been cut from the Federal parks and BLM lands.

Is anyone experiencing any fallout from this yet?

Caution:

Be careful with this one that it doesn't get "political."  Let's keep the comments related to actual closures or cut-backs in services that anyone might have experienced.

Believe it or not, I am a very UNpolitical person.  My only thoughts when posting this had to do with closures and services and how campers who prefer to boondock are being affected.  Are there more volunteer opportunities available to help subsidize the cutbacks?

Cheryl,

I wasn't worried about your questions.  I was concerned that "some" replies might lead down the "political" road.  All I did was try to define the parameters for any comments.  In all honesty, I'm one of those that "could" have taken it down that road, but Howard and Linda prefer us moderators to set good examples.

We are still static full-timers on Charleston AFB, Jay is a civilian (prior AD) working at the wing, he has just been told that he will be furloughed starting in July, one day a week for 13 weeks without pay. I had put in a resume to take over as Fam Camp host when the current host leaves in June, I got told that they are having to cut the host positions from 2 couples to just 1, still same workload, still same benefits, no $$ pay just free lot.

Cheryl, you would think that lack of funding would lead to more volunteer opportunities, but there are laws in place that don't allow salaried employees to be replaced by volunteers.  Still, with that said, there are lots of volunteer opportunities available in a wide variety of properties at both the federal and state levels.

As for the original question, we have seen what Lucky Mike reported - openings of campgrounds a month later than usual.  But we've also heard that some National Parks are re-negotiating concessionaire contracts which were horribly unfair to the parks (I'm all for the concessionaires making a buck, but some of the contracts that have been in place for a long time are just ridiculous in how little funds come back to the park).  That will likely help the more popular parks tremendously.

In the overall scheme of things, I don't think us campers are going to be seeing any major changes to get too upset about - just some inconveniences.

I'm hoping it will extend my boondocking, with lack of personnel there wont be so many rangers to notice me!!
