Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Noise when hot water is turned on

Started last night - when we turned on the hot water tap, there is a slight noise coming from the water heater.  Hot water heater is turned off but the noise sounds like it is coming through the pipes - humming - like something is caught in the pipe.  We drained the hot water tank, cleaned it with vinegar and water, flushed it out - still there!   Could it be the back flow preventor or.....??

go outside to the heater and lift the pressure relief valve and make sure there is not air trapped in there causing pipe rattle...also check your water pressure to make sure you have at least 35 pounds of pressure inline if the pressure is to low the backflow valve at the inlet will shutter, could be as simple as a dirty screen filter or water filter

Gotta love it when you have a future son-in-law for a plumber. Turns out to be the back flow preventor. Luckily the rv store is open for another hour. Should have hot water tonight.!!

Gotta love it too, when your son is a mechanic. Last night, fixed the "Service Engine Soon" fault. Was reading that the motor was running at -40 degrees C. Then onto the oil change. What a nightmare. We had the oil on the rv and toad done while away. They managed to leave the old oil filter on the pan under the toad. Noticed when we got to our next destination and oil was dripping everywhere. Then last night our son found out that they put in too small of an oil filter and tightened it so tight, he had to take a hammer to it to try and get it off and they stripped the threads on the drain plug. New drain plug today. Can't believe that all they do is change oil and they can't get it right!!

Good to be back and see family and friends but ready to get back on the road again to discover the interior of British Columbia and Alberta.

We have been full timing now for over six months and not a day goes by that we don't look at one another and say "Life is Good"
Love it, love it, love it!!

While I've not had to replace ours yet (it is also "buzzing" at us), I purchased a back-flow check valve so I would have one available.  I've been told that at some point, the valve could fail completely, thus stopping the water flow.  Having one "in stock" allows me the option of being able to change it out without having to go find one at a store.

It was a pretty easy fix, however, one of the by pass lines had to be cut in order to remove the back-flow check valve. Like everything in a rv - also put together from the outside in.!! Ours was pretty much shot and of no use at all, according to our son-in-law.
