Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Shocks or just the way it is

My Thor Hurricane 30Q  gave me a great ride on our 1st outing begining last week, except for two incidents that scared the crap out of me.I must have hit a couple of small potholes at the same time. The rv shook so bad I thought it was all over.I never felt so out of control.Afterwards it was a smooth ride again.Flagg, the dealership I bought it from, says "its normal, all rvs do it."Could new shocks  and a steering stabilizer solve the problem?

Also check your ball joints and tie rod ends. Its not "Normal". It doesn't matter about the mileage, a really bad road, or a hard hit on a pothole can do enough damage to warrant replacement of parts.

I can't remark about your vehicle or incident but it is a truck not a Cadillac. Mine is probably stiffer than most and I can tell you that I feel every single aberration in the road. Driving across los angeles is absolute punishment. My Smart rides much better than the truck and it isn't known for comfort. I suggest watching for the bumps and expect some attitude from your MH. You might want to have the suspension inspected, especially if it has some miles on it. It will give you piece of mind. I'm not one to go out and spend a bunch of money on aftermarket add-ons because the results are usually less than you expect. Always get some knowledge from folks that have first hand experience, like the folks on this list. They'll be honest and you'll be richer.

That is not normal!!! If your dealer won't do anything about it, take it to a good alignment shop and have them check it out.

dean ....I dont know if your still running around Mass., but the roads are rough to start with.....check your tires for over inflation or under for that matter.....and if it persists check suspension & steering assembly

Thanks everyone,After the two times that I thought it was all over with all the shakes from hitting a couple of smallish potholes,I haven't had the problem since. The Hurricane rides perfectly, just shaking a drop when hitting a pothole.I think Ive become much more wary of any irregularity I see on the road, avoiding it as much as possible.

I just thought I'd add my 2 cents in here too, Rvlife23!

One hard bang into a pothole can throw off your wheel alignment ...and burn all your tires bald in no time!

It happened to me!

The cost of a wheel alignment is 'nothing' compaired to having to replace 6 tires!

Dean make sure get onto an owners forum for your rig. In most cases someone has had the same problem you have and has a fix for it. Owner forums are a great resource.

Dean, It still scares me that you were feeling so out of control those two times. It sounds (to me) so abnormal, please seriously consider the advice of those experienced guys above and have it checked out. Better to be safe than sorry.

Safe travels.

Went to a reputable truck suspension garage. The alignment was a few degrees off adjust helping against the bumps and holes.Replaced the steering stabilizer. The worst was yet to come. The manager of the repair shop, not a tire salesman, informed me of tire rot on all 6 of them.i should have seen it,should have figured it, a 2006 with nearly 10,000k miles,Lots of sitting will do it every time.I called the dealership that sold me the rig 5 months ago while I was still shell shocked in the garage after the bad news.I told him that the Mass atty generals office specifically states that if a buyer is not informed of something hazardous before a sale the seller is liable. The dealership and the inspection station somehow overlooked the tire rot.He offered half of the expense and I took it.I'll consider the rest of it later.Got a check for 1300$ bought Continentals HSR 19.5 100 psi
Anyone know them?
