I can't speak to the Arizona location, but I've been through Capulin, NM many times on our vacation trips to Colorado. While I don't know anything about the RV park there, I can say that it is out in the middle of nowhere, and at best there might be a convenience store. No bigger than Capulin is, I wouldn't even swear any store is open there.

Then again, I think it might be right up your alley, considering where you are ultimately heading to in the way of a domicle. I'll do some more looking to see if I can find out anything more about the Capulin location.

OK. I did some more looking and found the website for the Capulin park. I honestly don't ever remember seeing the place before. Of course, the road through Capulin is probably less than 1/2 mile from one side to the other....maybe even less, so it is likely I just never noticed it before. It is right in town, but roughly two blocks south of Highway 87.

Capulin is located in New Mexico grassland country. When in that area, you are likely to see Antelope.

Raton, New Mexico has more parks, and is located closer to the mountains. If you happened to be going to Raton and then north towards Trinidad, Colorado, I've heard good things about Cedar Rail RV park up near the summit of Raton Pass.

Now, if you were interested in being in that area for any period of time, there is a National Forest campground (no hookups) about 30 to 40 miles west and a bit north of Trinidad. It is called Purgatoire River Campground and our family has camped there since 1976. It's up in the mountains, about 3 1/2 miles off of Highway 12. It has trees all around, a large meadow, and the Purgatoire River flows right down along the north edge of the campground. A few campsites are right on the river. The Purgatoire River at the campgrounds is roughly only about 10 to 15 feet across in most places, sometimes a bit wider.

We stayed at Homolovi State Park last year about this time. It is a wide open high desert park but with decent size spaces. Some hiking around and some Indian ruins. When we were there it was very quiet but it was early in the season. I think the sites are just water and electric if I remember right. We didn't feel it was a destination park but we were on our way to the Grand Canyon and needed a place to stop for a few days and it was great for that.

Thanks for the input. These aren't destinations for us either, but stopping points on our way to Southern Utah. Nice to have some feed back on areas that are new to us. Thanks.

You wouldn't happen to be from South Dakota would you? We are also cleaning up from a horrible ice storm!
