Nevada Domiciles, Anyone?

I'll second that emotion! Nevada has no income tax and appears to be a reasonable state for all other costs yet, no one ever talks about claiming it as state of record. I took delivery of my commercial vehicles in Nevada to avoid CA state sales tax (yes it's legal for commercial vehicles). I think registering my truck might be easier in Nevada than California and I certainly don't want to be associated with the land of fruits and nuts once I retire.

Does anyone have any experience with Nevada as your state of residence?

When it comes to the organically grown, real food fruits and nuts, I love NorCal. The people in Sonoma county are really nice too, just kinda deluded, but we won't get into politics for the sake of the forum! wink

I'll get into researching Nevada, see if I can find a mail forwarding place, and how long it takes to establish residency. I can rent a space for a month or two, if necessary. Nevada would be good for year round, with deserts in the winter, and north around Lake Tahoe in the summer. Lots of casino parking too!

We haven't changed our domicile yet, but I did put together a comparison of NV, WA (our current state), TX and SD. We figure we're staying in the Western US for the next few years due to our commitments on this side of the country so I did not evaluate FL.

We are still weighing the choice between WA where we currently live and will be back to each summer making the DL renewal easy vs. SD. Nevada would have been the easiest choice for us as we expect to spend a lot of time in AZ, some time in CA and still be up in WA for the summers.

Reasons for not choosing Nevada included property taxes that ran higher than other options, most expensive of the 4 states we researched for insurance, especially if you set up a residency in either county with Reno or Las Vegas, special endorsement needed to tow a trailer over 10K, CDL for over 26K, high inspection fees. There is a couple who full time in a Open Range fifth wheel that are out of Nevada. In fact, I think they still have enough ties there to remain there most of the time. If I remember right from what they wrote one time, it can depend on what county you live in with some issues of full-timing.

Well, I won't be buying property, my trailer weighs in at around 8,000 lbs, and as for health insurance.... aren't we supposed to be getting "affordable" health care? confuse

Last time I checked here in California, they wanted something like $600 a month for health insurance, which is more than I pay for rent (and credit cards, phone and internet) and I don't even take any prescriptions or get sick. (10 years ago, I was on anti-depressants for 6 months, until I figured out, unaided by medical professionals, that I have celiac. I stopped eating wheat, and within a month, no need for anti-depressants. But, I am now labeled with a "pre-existing condition that puts me at risk for suicide". confuse I also had a small spot of skin cancer removed, I am over 50 years old, so what do you think? $1,000 a month? For me, who never gets sick and takes no prescriptions? Seems affordable!)
