Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Searching for the impossible?

We’re looking for a place for February 2014.  In 02/13, we spent a month at the Carrabelle Beach RV Park on Florida’s panhandle.  The RV Park was perfection, but the weather was awful (cold, windy and often rainy), and although we really aren’t “shoppers”, it would have been nice to have a decent grocery store nearby – closest well equipped one was in excess of 40 miles away.

However, we are now spoiled by the amenities at Carrabelle Beach, and are in a quest for a similar park somewhere where the weather might be better and warmer in February…….Texas perhaps?

Concrete pads for parking

Picnic Table on site

Clean Restrooms with strong showers

Off leash dog area (or a nearby dog park) – a definite necessity!

Close to water (beach, lake, river, bayou)

If beach, dogs permitted

Well equipped grocery easily accessible

Well maintained and landscaped park

Travel Trailers permitted (ours is 22 feet)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Look around Punta Gordo to North Fort Myers, Florida. There should be multiple places similar to what you want.

Amy, in my experience you need to get closer to Tampa to warm up. I feel pretty certain that a 15 mph breeze on the water in the panhandle equates to a January gale in Alaska. I know I have never been colder. I spent many years near Destin. Our daughter lived in Tampa. We were always more comfortable in the Tampa area than up north. I expect that the rates are a little higher down there but you should be able to find an amenity laden park that won't break the bank. RVparking.com is an OK free source for identifying available parks.

Weather seems a lot more unpredictable in the past 10 years.

There are lots of places in Southern California where February can be mild vs. cold. In the desert areas around Palm Springs you experience 70 to 100 and clear during the day and down to freezing at night. Heavy rain and snow is rare. Bad weather leaves the area quickly. Lots of boondocking spots or full service RV resorts to choose from.

At the coast (San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles up to Ventura) you will have days of overcast but the temperatures will be mild. 50 to 70's during day, 40 to 50's at night. Again some possible rain but only lasts for short time and usually it's light.

Bentsen Palm Village in Mission TX seems to meet all your requirements except for being close to the beach. It's about 70 miles to South Padre Island. But everything else fits and the weather is great in February.

I agree, Bentsen Palm would meet that except for the beach. I'd say Retama as well but it does not really have a bath house....not sure why one would need one with an RV, though.  Oh, and I forgot...no picnic table, but some rental lots have patio tables.

There are nice showers at Retama too (Next to the pool). Check www.retamarentals.com for available lots.  Both are great places to spend a few monts longer!!

Yes, Carol, there are nice showers at the pool. But I don't really consider that a bath house....but then again, I guess it is.

So I guess Retama would work as long as you are 55+. I do have a lot available on a monthly basis - my personal lot is 4105 Lark.

It would also depend on what type of RV you have....not all RVs "qualify" for Retama - but all RVs are allowed in Bentsen.
