Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

New Full-timer has questions about Maiden Voyage

Hi all!  Well, after planning for about 2 years, I'm ready to hit the road.  As a complete new full-timer, I have a couple of questions.

I will be traveling from Northern Virginia to Milwaukee, WI (yes, I'd rather go south but family matters dictate me going north).  I have a 2002 Newmar Dutch Star.  My coach is still winterized...I will have the system flushed before I leave.  What do I need to be aware of and have to guarantee a warm trip and stay in Milwaukee?  I have a heater.  How long does the LPG supply last before needing to be refilled?

A 40 # bottle will go 1 week with hot water ,heat & cooking in the snow bank..(1rst hand info).....not knowing your habits, if your tanks are full your good.....water on board is another issue....will you have full hookups?.....are you planning on boondocking on the way?

Running your heat without hookup's will drain the batteries quick......if you pull over to sleep , make sure you are aware of this and check before you go that your RV battery is isolated from the tow vehicle charging system when parked or it will draw the tow vehicle battery down.......if your not sure unplug the unit from the tow vehicle and leave a note to self on steering wheel you did it!! plug it back in when you go


Weather is starting to warm up and stabilize across the country so things are starting to move as far as RV'S

We are from Wisconsin and it can get below freezing at night in April in Milwaukee. Is your basement area heated? We make sure to run our furnace on nights that will get cold to keep our tanks and water lines from freezing. If its going to be below freezing we put water in our tank and disconnect the hose and use the pump to keep the hose connection from freezing. Better safe than sorry. We also have two small electric heaters we use when we don't run the furnace. Enjoy your stay in Wisconsin!

I live in Indiana and the toll road (I-80 & 90) runs right through our property about two miles from the Ohio line.  I have travelled the toll road from Ohio to Illinois and I do not believe there are any hookups in the rest areas.  They have dump stations but they are all closed since the road was privatized.  Good luck with your maiden voyage and honk when you pass by.

I last drove the PA, OH, and IN toll roads in March. I noticed hook-ups at rest stops in both OH and IN.
