Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

First yard sale!

It was a pretty good success!  We sold about 1/3 of the small stuff, about 1/2 of the furniture, and had several lookie-loos "looking" at the house.

We sold enough that we are now "Fulltime" in the 5'er! Placing ads on craigslist tonight, maybe we can unload more furniture.  As soon as I can get in the bedrooms, I'll slap a coat of paint on, drop some carpet on the floor, and call a realtor.

November is our kick-off, and the clock is ticking!

Cool deal. We're needing to start working on our house to prepare it for sale. We did some last year (new flooring and paint), but have a few things left to do. We've been full-timing since September and our son currently lives in our house, but it's getting time to reduce expenses.

This has been an adventure. Its fun to read about how everyone just sold all their worldly possessions and took off. In reality its a little more complicated. Finding the 5'er was the fun part, cleaning out closet #6 and finding the box of your daughters 1st grade artwork, and then deciding what to do with it is tough. (stored with family for now). And then putting a price on an item you treasure, that you have packed and moved from house to house, that in reality might be worth $2 as a nicknack to somebody else.
But the freedom that everyone talks about is true. As you move forward in the transition this little feeling starts taking hold that you can do this, that your gonna do this, that everything you and your spouse talked and dreamed about is now happening!

Awww, I love all you guys and gals! Our first if four garage sales will be this upcoming weekend. We're selling bigger stuff on Craigslist (all cash) what we haven't shipped to kids or are transporting to sons's house in Tucson. There are some pangs as favorite pieces (patio table and chairs of all things!) go out the door but we are so excited to be able to hit the road full time in early May.
You're doing great. Hope to see you sometime again.

Sherry

It's kind of weird watching items you've had for a long time walk out the door. Our online estate auction resulted in 1/2 of our furniture selling, our dishes, small appliances that we aren't taking, several decor items, some collectibles, a musical instrument, etc. As I watched the items leave the house over this past weekend as various people came to pick up their purchases there was a feeling of relief.

Planning for the yard sale in mid-April, listing a couple of higher value items on Craigslist and then everything else will be going to charity.

Hard to believe all the money we've spent on "stuff" over the years is worth so little on the open market. It's nice to know we won't be spending much money on stuff in the future, if it doesn't replace something in the RV it won't be purchased. Think of how much money we'll save!!

It certainly isn't just a snap to get rid of everything. And it sure causes a few odd feelings watching your stuff head out to there new homes but it's funny how fast you forget about the stuff that is now gone once you hit the road.

I found taking pictures of collectibles or other items I was attached to helped a lot in getting rid of them. Now I have the photos of items I enjoyed but couldn't keep or didn't want to store. The same with kids artwork. I scanned some pieces that were special or took photos of them. That way I didn't feel bad getting rid of the actual item. And some of the things the kids wanted to keep for themselves.

Took the first step with a truck and trailer load to the local flea market yesterday. DW can't stand yard sales and selling, so it is up to me. Made $500, so my first tank of gas is paid for. We are two years out and still researching and RV shopping. Thanks for all the posts and advice. It really helps DW see how we can pair down the stuff and make it on the road. Once our youngest son graduates HS next year, we will get aggressive on sell the big items and the house. I told my sons the I am "burning their lifeboat." I'll always be there to help, but no coming back home to live. That reminds me...give each a tent and sleeping bag. One less thing to sell.
