Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

2012 New Horizons Custom 5th Wheel

The time has come to start advertising our New Horizons. This unit is not quite a year old, but I will not build our next coach until this one sells. It is a great deal for someone looking for a large luxury 5er suitable for off-grid living.

Before everyone starts the rumors that went around last time, I want to be CLEAR that we are selling this to build another similar coach. Because we represent New Horizons it is important to stay in the latest coaches. So our intention is to be in a new coach every two years. Considering it may take us most of a year to sell this we are starting now.

This coach is  42.5' and set up as a fulltimers dream coach. We skimped on nothing. Take a look at the sale sheet and you will see that this is loaded with high end features. It also has all the "little" things that represent 13 years of fulltiming.

I'm happy to answer questions....

For serious full-timers that might be interested in one-man's opinion:

I’ve spend some time in Jack’s 2012 New Horizons.  If you are looking for a totally top quality deal on a true “mobile home” that you can take almost anywhere, you own it to yourself to check this out.

This is truly a step up in quality and detail from anything else you will find.  (‘Other than perhaps Forks which is in the same class, IMO. However, Jack built this one.  That goes for a lot in itself as pertains to his NH rig.)

IMO, you will need an HDT to properly tow this rig with full saftey.  An F-450 "can” do it by specs, but that’s just not what this is all about.  “Can” is not the point of reference when you move into this class of RV.  My 2012 Chevy 3500HD, by specifications, “can” tow this rig.  But . . .

Jack and Danielle’s personal attention to detail, to honestly the last quarter inch, in the building of this coach gives touches in ways that most wouldn’t know how to ask for; let alone get built.  I know, I built “stuff” like this.

If Linda and I needed another coach for full-timing we’d buy this in a heartbeat.  This is about as custom and perfect as it gets for those who want the best at a better price than you might expect.  Saying it’s used is like saying a Vovlo 610 with 250,000 miles on it is “used.”

Thanks, Bill. You and Linda are one of the few people on the forums that have seen our 2012.

When we built this coach we knew it was likely we would "turn it" if we continued our relationship with New Horizons. BUT, we built it exactly like we wanted it for the long term. We did not build it for "resale". So, for example, it has a well configured electrical system on it. (800 watts high voltage solar panels, 2800 watt pure sine wave inverter, 1020 Amphours of AGM Lifeline batteries, Morningstar solar controller, 5500 watt genset, Progressive EMS, LED lighting, powered 50 amp cord reel). We spared no expense to set this up as a dream coach. Someone will be getting a great deal.

Jack & Danielle Mayer, are you ever in Southern CA?

I have read your blogs and classifieds and you clearly do your research. My husband and I are entrepreneurs that are considering, for business purposes, to live/work in an RV for a few years while we build our business throughout Southern CA and wherever else our business takes us (which could be anywhere in the US & Canada.)

We were thinking why be locked down to a house and have to drive back and forth hundreds of miles when we could drive to a destination and then park it for the night when done.

Anyway, if you are intending to be in Southern CA this year, I would love to buy you both lunch or dinner and really get an education on what RVing life is REALLY like and if this is something that even makes sense for us before we spend a fortune.

Also, on another note, I found this cool safety hitch system and I was curious what you think of it? Would this be something you would have considered for your 42ft New Horizon? It seems like it would allow us to get a smaller truck but I would like your educated opinion if you agree. http://www.automatedsafetyhitch.com/

Many thanks in advance and good luck on selling your 2012 New Horizon.

I'm not Jack but I would be very skeptical of any devise that would let you think you could pull more weight with less truck.

I have to agree with George (Racerguy).  With the addition of the automated safety hitch one would actually be ADDING more weight for the truck to tow, thus making it an issue of perhaps needing a bigger truck, not a smaller one.

Not only that but why would anyone get a 5th and take away much of the benefits towing a fifth has with that contraption, throw in some added length and another part to unhitched and store and you have real PITA in my opinion......

This not something new....they have one on display at the RV Museum in Elkhart, IN. I must say when you first see it you admire the ingenuity but for those of us that know better then you start saying no way! Like anything else out there, someone always has an idea but many lack common sense. Bottomline if your TV has a specified tow rating from the manufacturer (not that I trust those either) why take the chance of either injury or death should a catastrophic accident happen just to save a few dollars? Those saved dollars will pale in comparison to your loss. You will Jack has a gorgeous truck for sale that will tow that sweet Horizons any where you want it, safely! Good luck, Les

The safety hitch type system does work if you keep the weights where they need to be. AND if the system is built properly. There have been a number of these on the market over the years...all have different features. They would not interest me at all, but for some niche markets they might meet the needs of the customers.

As to CA....we tend to stay out of CA. Have not been there in years.

Thanks everyone for your advise as well taken! The idea was great when I thought it was $2,500 but now I find out it is nearly $10k. Ouch!

If anyone knows any credible people that know their stuff in the RV world that are in SoCal, please let me know as I would love to buy them lunch or dinner and pick their brain before I decide on a 5th wheel or Diesel Pusher.
