Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

campground hot tubs?

one of the things i'll miss is my bathtub so am thinking of getting my fix at various camgrounds and rv parks along the way.

however i'm a bit skeeved out by the thought of a bacterial laden public pool so wonder if there's anything to be done about it.

carry bleach or vinegar and surrepticiously shock the hot tub myself a few hours before using it?

check into a fancy hotel for a weeknight--can't afford that probably!

bring an inflatable?!

Make friends with people who have hot tubs, pools and bath tubs they are willing to share in their homes :)

You could also travel with your own water testing kit, and test the water before you get in.

It depends on the campground and how well the management takes care of the facilities. We go to an RV Resort every year near San Diego. The facilities are well maintained. I've seen the pool and hot tub closed several times due to "hazards" left by guests (usually kids). They shock the pool or hot tub for a day and do not allow anyone to use them.

In addition, they have switch over to a salt water system which is supposed to kill most bacterias.

We've never had a problem in either the pool or hot tub.

The hotel idea is good.... for a tub soak.

Although I'm not a bathtub type of guy.... the pool, lake, river or ocean is a great "soak" substitute for a tub.

Our house we just sold we had installed a pool with sal****er system. They are great, but they are not any better at controlling "hazards" than plain chlorine. The biggest benefit was the feel of the water, feels very soft and silky. We had less skin problems. And there was no strong chlorine smell.
I'm spoiled and hate to swim in a chlorine pool due to the smell.

Hot tubs grow bacteria. It's a big Petri dish. We use chlorine in ours and change the water frequently. I considered mounting one on the truck but realized I'd have to run the generator for hours every time we wanted to use it so I shelved that idea. Besides, who wants to wear a suit in a hot tub.

Our friends, Sean & Louise, of http://ourodyssey.blogspot.com had an inflatable hot tub hooked into their diesel burner hydronics system for the hot water. It was nothing short of fantastic. They just recently moved onto a boat from their amazing double decker bus conversion, and I believe their intentions was to take the hot tub with them.

It is possible, but I believe that the system they purchased (a YachtTub) is no longer in business.

darn, i was afraid there was no good answer!
not that we won't take advantage of the hot springs, we surely will!
but i suspect i'll be staying out of the giant petri dishes.
even though i have a great immune system my dh has danced with chemotherapy too many times for it to be worth the risk.

maybe an inflatable?...

p.s. and sans suit is the only way to go,lol!

Suse, the fancy hotel is no guarantee of cleanliness, I like the water test idea. Bringing your own inflatable does not sound practical. You might have to deal without for awhile....

we're thinking we may get a storage unit near where the grandkids are, as we'll be parked there for the longest times.
so while we're there it will be nice to have and when we're in the western states there'll be no need, as we'll be hot spring hopping for sure.

Susie,

I was a lifelong bathaholic! Nothing better than a long soak in the tub with a good book and a nice glass of wine. Three years ago we purchased a home we had been renting short term (we thought). Two big walk in showers but no tub. I really missed it and thought I could make up for it in hotels when we traveled and visits to our kids; but the universe was working against me because in three years only one hotel had a tub and none of the kids guest rooms! I can't say I don't miss it but its not been a big deal in a long time. It's kind of humorous to me now. Just read someplace that more and more homes are being built without tubs, but spa showers so we may be dinosaurs!
