Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Forgive me if this topic has been forged already. We will be traveling with our bikes and the 'jello plan' is to park the RV and do some side trips on the bikes every now and then for say two or three nights. We see ourselves renting space at a Storage Unit to leave the truck and RV while we are out and about. Is this the way some of you do it? Is there another way? Are there any rallies for RVing bikers or other gatherings?
Kelly, I don't have any motorcycles but I have had to go off for a couple of days an leave the RV. Why not just leave it in the campsite, that way you can leave it plugged in and you can leave things in the fridge and keep heating/cooling on. If that dosen't work, some campgrounds have a storage area for a few dollars a night you cn leave it there. Just make sure the campground you leave from has a storage area. Most motorcycle rallies have some kind of campground or the promoters should know of an campground in the area.

I would think that any commercial storage facility would require a longer period of storage. We've dealt with one or two and each required a few months instead of a few days. However, when you are in an area where you want to travel out from, check with local facilities, just in case they would allow short-term rentals. Also, check with the local campgrounds/rv parks. There might even be some local individual that may allow one to park their RV and truck on their private property.
Now, all that said, I would imagine that most folks leave their RV in a campground or RV park so that if they come in late on that last day, they don't have to rush around to find a campsite and then get the RV moved there and set up.

We travel with our bike and it is a good way to explore an area as well as continue to enjoy the sport. We tend to stay in one place for most of the season since we work camp most of the year so our experiences may vary a little from yours but our goal is to explore places that are on our bucket lists and this includes riding the bike.
Winter seems to keep the bike covered for one reason or another, mostly because we have worked as gate guards down in South Texas for a couple months each winter and it's just not conducive to exploring by motorcycle. This summer we will be working at Mount Rushmore and will be on the bike a lot exploring the Black Hills and surrounding area. We are really looking forward to that experience.
I don't know of any RV rallies geared towards motorcyclists but there are many motorcycle rallies held at fairgrounds and such that offer on site camping during the rally. Seems to me I remember one large rally somewhere near Mount Rushmore in August ........ hmmm guess we'll be close to Sturgis this
year.

Parking it at a storage unit requires a contract and is specifically for long-term storage. Most places, if not all would not agree to a "few" day storage.
in regards to storing your rig while you take a few days on the bike. A lot of the private campgrounds have storage areas that they rent out mostly on a monthly basis but wouldn't hurt to explain what you want to do to the owner/manager. More than likely you could come to an agreement for a few days of storage if they have the space, if not I would probably do as suggested and just rent a site in the park, plug in and hit the highway.

KellyVA,
We ride and bring our toys wherever we go. Thinking about how you want to ride a few days and then return to your RV it would probably cheaper in the long run to rent a spot in a campground. The National Parks and forests along with the state park campgrounds tend to be the cheapest.
Whatever the decision, enjoy the ride and ride safe!
