Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hi Everyone,

As the title says,  I'm thinking of moving out of my apt and buying a livin lite toy hauler.  Although higher cost I thought aluminum frame ect would help with concerns rotting wood, mold, leaks etc....and maybe better resale?  Is this true or a bunch of hupla?

I have  a flexible job,  I fly a lot but now,but  could drive and stay in my different sales territories (and bring my dog).  Its just me, my dog and surf boards, dirt bike,  mtb,  road bike, ski's you get the picture.

I'm pretty simple as it is and thinking of taking advantage of being buy the beach, mountains or just in a new city from time to time.

I'm friends with a lot of folks who think I'm crazy, so I thought it be nice to introduce myself and hear from folks who maybe don't think I'm crazy!  My idea is to save cash and be free until I find the perfect place to live. (figure I"ve dumped 20k in rent over the over the last decade)

What are some of the unexpected costs/concernts I should be aware of?  I know I have to account for RV Parks, Propane, Insurance, maybe storage, What else?  Any comments are welcome.

Eric,

Welcome to the RV Dreams forums.  You will find that the folks here are pretty knowledgeable about all kinds of RV's, so you should get some good answers.  I'm not familiar with the RV you are considering, so I'll let the others touch on that for you.

As for finances, you might check out the "Site Map" link on Howard and Linda's home page.  There you can find a lot of information about a lot of things, including their financial information.  You can kind of glean through those to see what expenses they have that might apply to you.

Eric: Welcome! The problem with wood is if you get a leak; and can't access it without taking things apart then you have a chance for mildew; mold and rot. Aluminum is used for supports, like wood, not for the wall-panels or the flooring. I don't know how the aluminum welded joints will withstand the bumps and flexing from traveling over uneven and bumpy highways.
My suggestion would be to follow forums; like Holiday Rambler or the make that you are looking at.
As for the financial, take Terrys' suggestion from above. There will be many who will chime in and may have just the Answers you are seeking.

Welcome Eric! You are definitely reaching out to the right communities to find folks who won't think you're crazy :) We also live and work on the road, and there many of us out here doing it.

I'd also recommend connecting up with the NuRVers community, which is comprosed almost entirely of working-on-the-road RVers.

I think the best way to prepare is to follow a lot of folks already doing it to get a vast array of experiences, ask specific questions as you have them and be open to the unique challenges you might have.  

We also have a free blog series (listed in our signature) that goes over a lot of the logistical stuff that may help answer some of your questions.
