Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Help with solar repair

Don't know whether this is acceptable question to ask but here goes.  We are having trouble with our solar system and the closest city is Tucson - any recommendations re repair?

Thanks.

There is a solar savvy mobile tech in Casa Grande in the Escapees park if you are in that direction. Even though we are in Tucson ourselves I don't know anyone local.  Arizona places I know of are http://www.rvsolarelectric.com/ in Scottsdale and http://www.starlightsolar.com/ in Yuma, but neither is that close to Tucson.    If you are an Escapee you might check with people at the Benson Escapees Co-op for recommendations.

Hi:
Well we are hoping tomorrow that things will improve. Don't ask how but water got onto the Blue Sky monitor and charging doesn't seem to be happening via the solar. We are sitting with the generator on now and hope that when the sun is out tomorrow things will be better. We went into the solar system thing pretty naive and that's all I want to say about that.! (the truth about being so naive really stings) Bill, I found the name of the fellow in Casa Grande and have e-mailed him to see if he could see us on Monday as we were planning on heading that way then. Bloggers, Nina & Paul recommended him highly. If nothing else just to check things out and explain some things to us.
Like I have said before, this is all a learning curve but such a positive learning curve. Thanks again for your quick responses!!!

If you can get some dry rice around the controller it might help dry it out. Works for cell phones and computer parts.

Hi guys:
Will let you know tomorrow. Keep your fingers and toes crossed that it is just minor!! but would still like to understand the system better. Hubby took off the cover and had a fan going to try and dry it out. The charging status light keeps going off and on and the volt/amp was going down but the battery charge wasn't going up?? We spent a lot of money on this system and must admit embarrassed on not getting more information on it. Seems like they took the money and ran!!. Anyways, it could be worse.
Happy Thanksgiving to you both. We are Canadian so have already celebrated the turkey last month - ribs tonight!! Enjoy your turkey though and once again thanks.
Melissa

M, Craig said to disconnect it and dry it out with a hair dryer (if you're running the generator).  He said you have to get it "away from the power or it will corrode".

Sorry you guys are having trouble.  Call me if you can and we'll see what else DH can come up with.

Hope things get betterl!

Just a quick update. We need to have the solar booster replaced plus some faulty wiring replaced. Hopefully, that will be done on Monday. That being said, we thought we would be OK by running the generator to keep the batteries boosted - wrong. The generator died last night. Brought it into a place in Green Valley,AZ and he figures it is the fuel pump - being replaced tomorrow. Now staying in an RV Park (sorry Ugh this is just not our style but it is working) Please keep your fingers crossed that when the fuel pump is replaced and next the solar issue dealt with we can move on and enjoy what the big picture out there has to offer.

Got the rig back this afternoon and the generator works like a charm. The fellow at Jeff's Automotive in Green Valley knew what he was talking about - just that good feeling. He highly recommends NOT using Sea Foam but using 44KBG (only available at automotive shops and not cheap - once every 1/2 dozen tanks) We are still staying at the RV Park until possibly Sunday and then the solar will get repaired. Lucky Mike - this is a minor diversion and we are recuperating - went down to Tubac (just love that place) bought a typical Mexican pot for our cactus and just taking it easy. Sorry but I feel very young around here but the people are so friendly and kind but we are just not there yet - need to see big spaces. (It's Lyle & Melissa - MarySunshine's hubby is Craig!) Take care everyone, thanks again for your info and support.
