Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Ok so we have purchased our 5th wheel and our 2001 Volvo VNL660 and both have an air hitch on them. On the 5th wheel we have a MorRyde at which our home has a full weight of 15,500. and is 39ft long. Our HDT has an E-Z floater on it. The people who owned it previously had a 42ft toy hauler. Not sure the weight but quite sure it surpasses ours. ;p At any rate, we are trying to make the best decision as to which one to keep. I am thinking the E-Z floater as it is clear that it can handle the most weight between them both and leaves us room if we decide to need a bigger home. Been trying to locate information on both so that I can understand them better, but its not working very well for me. Thinking I am not looking it all up the right way or something..

Maybe I am mis-understanding your question...but I did not think MorRyde made an AIR hitch. We have a MorRide hitch on our fifth wheel and it has rubber "donuts" inside it to limit and negate the "chucking" effect of the fifth wheel. Assuming you have the same MorRyde hitch on your fifth wheel, then I do not think you need to do anything. I would just hitch up and take it out and see how you like the way everything rides. At the very most, you might trade out the hitch on the trailer. I would definitely keep the E-Z Floater hitch on the truck.

From what I've heard from others on other forums, it isn't a problem even if one does have both an air hitch and an air ride pin box. I don't know about the MorRyde system all that much, but I don't recall anyone saying that MorRyde had an air pin box. So, I would simply suggest you not change anything.
I've not ever heard of the E-Z Floater fifth wheel, so I really can't say anything about them.

the "doughnuts" I think he was referring to are the white plastic discs seen between the 2 plates on the pin box in the picture of the Morryde.
The hitch on your truck is a true "air hitch" and will lesson the impact of the road between your truck and 5th wheel frame. You can adjust the ride of the 5th wheel (and "stiffness" of the hitch) by adjusting the amount of air inside the black air bags. The Morryde pin box is used to reduce the "chucking effect" caused from forward and backward movement (starting/stopping etc) and has little to no effect on up and down movement caused by bumps, chuck holes and freeze joints. There is no adjustment on the Morrydes that I am aware of.
Again, I would just keep them both and enjoy the ride.

I agree with TheHarveys, leaving the set up as is should not cause any problems. If you must get rid of one or the other, keep the air ride hitch on the truck. I had the air ride pin box on our Montana and it helped with some of the roughness an HDT causes but an air ride hitch would have been a lot better IMHO (I had a 20K Reese on the Freightliner).

I was trying to attach my pics of the MorRyde and EZ-Floater, but don't understand how. If I understand correctly here, the MorRyde is actually a 5th wheel and the EZ-Floater is our "Air" ride? I was thinking they both are the air ride, but it makes more sense to me now that the EZ-Floater is the 5th wheel hitch. The previous owners loved this hitch and could not say enough about how super easy it was to hook up and unhook as needed..

Yes, I believe that you understand well. Our EZ- Floater is exaclty how you are saying about the rubber "donuts", but our MorRyde does not have the "donuts".. I really wish I knew how to attach photos. If someone here can tell me how I would be happy to share so it can take away all confusion for everyone.. ;)

After looking at the picture of the EZ Floater hitch on your truck, I think you should start off with both this hitch and the MorRyde king pin box you already have on the trailer. The MorRyde is built to control front to back chucking where the EZ Floater will cushion the vertical movement between the truck and trailer. Both together should be about the best combination you could possible have. Nice look truck too!
