Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Wiring for solar panels

Hi, I have a 35' Alfa Sun 5'ver with 2 125 watt solar panels and 4 6 volt golf cart batteries. I'm heading for Quartzsite but am not getting the juice I think I should out of my system as it is now. When connecting the panels to the "regulator" I used the existing pre-wired lines built in at the factory. I am also using regular car battery size wires for wiring the 6 volt batteries in series. I've been told I need bigger guage wire for the system to eliminate loss of voltage. Anyone have any suggestions on how to improve my system?

Thanks,

Joe

not knowing your complete system , I would suspect you need to upgrade sizing from factory wiring and minimize any splicing in route..

Was this system sized up ........is this a Mfg, factory system.......is it a DYI system.........a factory system with DYI upgrades.(added batteries, regulators.panels)

If you tell me the distance form your panels (wire run distance) to the controller, and from the controller to the batteries I'll tell you what size wire you need for those 2 panels. Also, what controller do you have?

The battery wiring is likely OK unless you are running a large inverter.
