Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hurricane

Well today I had every intention of winterizing the MH for the winter but now that the hurricane is a threat it has changed the plan, filled up with gas, propane and water just in case power goes down, last hurricane pwer was down for 4 days and the MH w/the generator really saved our behinds (and our neighbors whose generator failed) hopefully the storm dies out ....stay safe out there....especially those on the east coast !

By all means, be careful.  While we here in Oklahoma can "dodge" the tornados, it is hard to dodge a storm that is as wide as a hurricane.  Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you to the East of us.

Unless the wind blows all your neighbors leaves into your yard.  I rented a house once where all the leaves and tumbleweeds from the area piled up in our back yard since the neighbors had fences.

Well, this morning, we have lots of rain and wind.  They say that Atlantic City NJ will feel the brunt of it by 7PM tonight.  We are only about 60 miles West of there.  Everything is closed, grocery stores etc.  We'll just have to wait it out and see what it brings.  Be safe everyone in her path.

Wish I took some photos, just tried to get into Bayville to check out a property, no dice, all roads in closed, LI Sound looked like the North Atlantic, could not even look straight at the water. Many trees down already, it's going to be a long night......

Hate to tell Ya'll this, but here in Coastal central North Carolina, the outer bands are still coming over us...
This is a huge storm.. For the folks that haven't weathered a hurricane, GET OUT..
We stay put for storms up to cat 4 but leave for the cat 5. It won't seem bad at first, but after the ground gets saturated enough, you'll see trees moving that you never thought possible.
Stay safe everyone...

When the powers of wind & water overwhelm,We are reminded of what it is to be human: To be small and vulnerable in the face of power we cannot control; to be innovative and creative in how we provide for ourselves & each other; to be stronger working together than we could ever be alone..........To all my Friends on the east coast please be safe and watch out for your fellow RVers, May all be well!!

While I realize some of those in the affected areas will not have power and thus can't see this message, but I would appreciate all who have stated that they are in the path ot get back on later and let us know if you are OK.  Video shown on FOX News this morning of New York City is very eye-opening.  Numerous vehicle and subway tunnels are flooded.  Hopefully, most of you are out of that immediate area.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Terry

Checking in here.  Bill stayed with the RV at the Campground and I was at my dad's about 15 miles NE.  Bill said that there was heavy rain and strong gusts of wind.  Later in the evening the generator kicked in for a bit but the power didn't stay off, just flickered on and off.  It is still raining today but the winds have died down.  Bill said that during the night the winds were very strong and they rocked the MH to the point that he got a little rattled.  At my dad's, you actually had to go to the door to see what was happening.  Very strange.  Dad is without phone service today but his power was still on.  I spent the evening with my dad as Mom passed away on Sunday, otherwise we would have all been together.  So, between the weather and life, it has been a little stressful.

I hope that everyone else who was in Sandy's path fared well.

hmmhmmSad! SO SAD! Seen a mother and daughter on tonights news'. the Mom has lost her home, I believe to the fire caused by Hurricane Sandy. The mom found a shard of pottery in the rubble and both started walking away. The mom wants to rebuild and her daughter wants her to walk away. But; You know what is saddest; the 60 + people who lost their lives in the U.S. and those in the Carribean. I send my deepest thoughts and prayers to the survivors and yes I know just like 911, New Yorkers will pull together in times of disaster.

With my recent health setback; no matter what possessions one loses; living is so much more precious. The first thought that went through my mind was to tell the doctor all my relatives and friends number were in my wallet, when I was having the heart procedure, and tell them my 'Final Goodbye'. Doc said; Tell them Hi instead because you will not die. And My favorite song title "Live Like You Are Dying" by Tim McGraw goes through my thoughts daily as we never know what the next few minutes will bring. PIEERE

However, I don't believe you would leave either as like me the sentimental value of items are what hold us tight to the oars which guides us through the storms. Pray all gets better soon. There is nothing more powerful than the destruction from them. Pieere

Gene, I hope for your sake things get better soon but it sounds like NY and NJ have a lot of fixing to do.  Are you in a position to jump in the RV and take off for a while? Might be a good time to get out of Dodge!

Come on south..
Your RV is in MB isn't it?
Temps are in the 60's, sky's clear, powers on, grocery stores are fully stocked (liquor stores might be short of rum here!)
Come on down! The state park has a bunch of open sites, Ocean Lakes has a bunch of horse people in right now, but they should have some sites not used....

We keep thoughts of you and your family within our circles and hope for only the best......

This is one reason we luv having the 5th wheel home. Last year during the aftermath of Irene, I cranked the genny, and we had "home" in the driveway for a few days.
If we ever had a mandatory evacuation, it would make getting gone alot easier as well.

I was reading an article this evening that the Soldiers still still stood guard over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers during the Hurricane. Couldn't ask for more respect and honor for our military and the FREEDOM they stand for. Some commit to 1 to 3 years of duty. God Bless them and all those who serve Present, Future and Past. PIEERE

Gene - we do hope things settle down quickly. Too cold to be w/o power.

Loretta - I grew up in the Cross Keys section of Williamstown. Graduated from WHS. Condolences to your family.

Here outside Bridgeton, NJ we never even lost power even with high winds and heavy rains. We are fulltimers who are currently at "Camp Driveway" at the daughters house. We thought about leaving but the area of the storm was so wide it made no sense. Especially since we have a generator as does the daughter and we filled the RV tanks plus lots of containers for the house just in case.

From all accounts the destruction is unbelievable. Our hearts go out to all those in the affected areas.

Thank you.  I lived in Williamstown for the passed 10 years until we became full timers.  Planning our departure now to somewhere warm.  It is getting too cold here now.  I am praying for the people affected by Sandy, it is too cold to be without heat.  We were very lucky in Clarksboro NJ that we did not have so much damage.

I know what you mean, Mike.  DW and I volunteered in Joplin, MO Memorial Day weekend one week after the F5 tornado wiped out a third of the city.  There were people there from all over the US.  There was so much food and water...all donated.  The older folks who couldn't do the physical labor were driving around handing out the food and water.  These folks didn't have to worry about freezing, though since it was the end of May.  Hopefully, there will be the same outpouring of help in the northeast.
