Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Yesterday as I was hauling the 5th wheel back home from Chula Vista I heard on the radio there was a fatal accident about half way between where I was and home. In California it usually takes about 4 hours for a fatal accident investigation to complete. The report indicated the coroner had not arrived and all 4 lanes were blocked only the carpool lane was opened. The backup had already extended 5 miles south of the accident location.
This trip is normally about 2 hours but with the accident I expected at least two to three extra hours of extremely stop and go traffic.
My gut told me to take the next highway headed east and cut over to the I-15. That's what I did. This added 80 miles to the trip so I figured I would save about an hour and no stop and go.
Problem was once I hit the I-15 (38 mile later) it began to sound like the accident investigation was beginning to clear. About the time I made my turn to head west on CA-91 towards home the lanes were all open on I-5 and traffic was still backed up but beginning to clear.
So I figure I probably at best saved driving through an hour and half stop and go traffic and increased my fuel cost by $20 to arrive home at the same time if I had just stayed on the I-5.
I still feel my gut made the right choice... I know the stop and go traffic would have driven me crazy.
To make matters worse, the right suspension on the 5th wheel failed on the last turn onto our street. Not sure what happened but the front and rear tires are rubbing each other on that side. I will have to fix it before heading to the Boondocking Rally.
You know what's funny.... my gut last week was telling me I needed to replace the suspension parts on the 5th wheel before we head to Quartzite.
I guess my gut is doing just find.

Seriously it is a good thing to listen to that voice. RVers are a stubborn lot in general and hate to hear, "I told you so", especially from themselves.
