Scott, I really don't see a practical way to build a portable deck that is 6x8. If you look at the link that Cindy gave us those decks are a lot smaller. By the time you add stairs, rails, and decking, you will end up with one heavy structure that will take some time to erect. The only way I would go if I wanted a deck while camping would be to purchase the Veranda Motorhome, Google it, it's pretty impressive.

I was thinking 2"x6" rails around perimeter with deck boards on a L channel.I would set it on the ground with shims to level it, so it would not need stairs or railing. I would still use the fw stairs down to the deck. Just thinking it woud be nice to be off the ground in wet weather.

We haven't started fulltiming so mabe I'm looking for a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. I thought spending a month at a time at a site we might run into an issue with wet and muddy sites. What do people do to keep the outdoor space under the awning usable in wet weather?

I looked at one of these Gene......Impressive it is , the deck is nice but I felt by losing the slide area some part of important fulltime storage went missing neat Idea tho.......Best deck area I found is to buy a Sissel deck mat 8X10 and roll it out under the awning it fits anywhere and weight wise is not so bad!!!!

I have thought about using aluminum angle and composite TEK decking to make a foldable unit but weight and storage is impractible unless you are not moving far and you are staying yearround in one spot.....

decks look real nice until about the second time you have to pick it up and move it..........Im getting to old to be wasting energy to look good to the Jones.....besides who wants a heart attack just trying to make a place to sit down!!!

Scott, most people use a 20ft camping rug/mat, they also get messy and muddy but I have a large plastic bin that I stuff the whole mess in. When it is dry, these mats shake clean pretty easily, they are sold at camping world and most camp supply stores. As far as your deck idea a couple of things to consider, 1-----2x6 gets heavy, 2----in order to make the structure sound the corners must be joined. 3------The joists must be joined to the ledger or box beam. 4-----The decking must also be secured. 5----All this securing and unsecuring will eventually compromise the wood, it will continue to get looser and looser and harder to assemble. I am not trying to discourage you but being a carpenter for 30 years has given me a pretty deep knowledge of wood and it's working properties.....G

Those are OK but they are designed to be installed over a FLAT SOUND CONSISTENT surface, they do not work over uneven grass, gravel, or dirt......G

I know that Heartland Toy Haulers have a set up where the garage door can be used as a deck and also includes the deck railing. I'm sure that other toy haulers have that option.

I have been using an RV-EZ Step porch with steps. It has worked well and is very portable. Do a Google search for them.

I am in this market as well. I am looking for something that is easy to deploy and that maybe folds up against our motorhome? Any ideas?

old post but we have a similar issue with wanting a deck. however we live at camp most of the summer and intend to leave it here while we snowbird.
but we still want it to be portable, so i can move it out of the way when parking the fiver for the season. then we can put it back up against the camper. so we're looking at portable aluminum docks. they are more expensive, but are maintenance free and not too heavy for one person to move alone.
our other thought is if this campground sells or we move for some reason we can pack up the dock/deck and bring it with us.

Check out these decks they may be what you are looking for. They are called Travel easy decks www.traveleasydecks.com. I hope this helps. We love ours. They fit in the storage bin under our trailer or in front of our fifth wheel hitch.

Anyone still interested in portable steps and decks should check out this website. All aluminum, totally folding, easy peasy set-up. Sturdy. Very reasonable priced. I am thrilled to see this and it is definitely on my wish list!

When I looked at the link yesterday... no issues. Today, it's being reported as unsafe and malware is present, so I aborted the attempt. Just giving a heads up on possible internet safety issue. I was using Google Chrome.

Looked at your product too. Nice. Steel construction.. D60 deck and stairs must weigh a fair bit, any numbers on that? What is the weight and capacity of the cargo carrier?

Our web site is best for digging into more details or give us a call.

Unit weight will vary by model and option but from 36lbs to 209lbs.

However, the heaviest component would be the deck (platform) on

any StairSafe model: 40x40 45lbs 40x60 65lbs. Our cargo carrier

will carry up to 500lbs but is designed to carry our smallest S1430L to our largest D603530 units.

There is o cargo carrier out there built like ours. It is very study and will not rock and rattle on the hitch.

We have one of these Sunrise decks ,we actually went to the guys house where he builds them (saved a lot on shipping) they are well built and adjustable to fit ,a little pricey but it breaks down and sets up in 15-20 mins ......ours might be for sale if it doesn't work out with the new DP
