Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Do I need a Web Hosting Co?

I have a blog with blogger.com. Should I use a web hosting co? My blog is very simple right now. What does a web hosting co do?

Host websites. If you're not expecting a lot of interactions or planning to post a large volume of content or turn over content a blog site is all you need.

If you plan to do something commercial and or complex and or with a lot of graphics and or host your own forums and or do a lot of some form of interacting with larger numbers of people then a web hosting site may be good for you. But only if you are able to design and maintain and update it other wise you'll need to pay people to do that.

Since at the moment your blogging and using RV dreams forums I'd say you don't need a web site. But only you can answer that question I don't know what your plans are.

I'm just starting a travel blog. Just a site with our pictures and campground information for family and friends to look at. Thanks for the information :)

You've stated that you have or are using Blogger, plus, I see you have one on WordPress, so the only other one that I know of from seeing them used by others is My Trip Journal.  Unfortunately, I've never used My Trip Journal, so I can't say anything about its ease of use or anything else about it.

With you having used both Blogger and WordPress, I may be asking you some questions soon as I just recently moved from Blogger to WordPress.  I'm still learning that system, so I don't know if I did a good thing or not.  Sadly, recent personal events such as Jo's illness has kept me from doing much blogging, so I've not been able to find the time to do more research.

Good luck in finding "the" system.

Terry

Kevin and Janet, if this is just to post photos and campground information for your friends and family, you do not need a hosting company. Blogger and/or wordpress.com are free, easy to use and will work great for the needs that you describe.

If you want to spend a little money (about $10 a year), something you may want to do is buy a domain with a name easier to remember. For example, kevinandjanetblog.com is easier to remember than exploringusa48.wordpress.com. Although this one is not too bad. There are blogs that I visited and I'd like to check again and I just cannot remember the name because it was so complicated I cannot even blame it on the menopause!

Once you have your domain, you can forward it to exploringusa48.wordpress.com and everyone typing kevinandjanetblog.com will go there automatically.

Hope that helps,
Patricia

PS: in case you have heard that you need a hosting for wordpress, people were talking about wordpress.org which is different of wordpress.com where you are right now.
