Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I have been looking at trucks and specs on the trucks. I am curious as to the rear end. I see people saying what particular rearend they have in their trucks and my question is are those standard rearends or were they switched out for towing? Researched the 6.0 f350 motor and I really didn't read very many good reviews on it. I drove a commercial truck for two years and I know that cummons makes a good motor and I have heard the duramax is a good motor. I think I'm leaning towards a dodge 3500 but I don't know much about dodges. The 7.3 powerstroke seems to be a good motor if I could find one with reasonble miles. If anyone has any suggestions and or information that will help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you Gary
You might gain some better insight if you go to the thread titled 'Tow Vehicles'. Believe me, there is a lot of insight to be had here!
I was all ready to pull a fiver with a 3/4 ton--I mean, after all, I'm only going to tow 14-15,000 lbs and the truck was rated to pull 17,000. What the heck? Then I found this web site and started absorbing all the years of experience from dozens of full timers. Now I'm looking at one ton duallys for the purpose of stability--something I had never thought of.
I've always been a GM man so when I pull the trigger, it will be a Duramax/Allison. With this vehicle, there is only one rear end to be had, the 3:73. I suppose you could take any truck to a driveline specialist and have them put any rear end you wanted in it.
Try the Tow Vehicles thread--see what you can find out.
Best of luck with your quest for the perfect truck. Althought this may not be the proper forum, I would like you to know that I had a wonderful 1997 7.3 F-350. When I bought it in '97 it was the best tow vehicle I had ever had. I previously had a Chevy turbo diesel and it was terrible. Now I have a 2006 F-550 6.0 and (stock vs. stock) it pulls better than the 7.3 ever did! ( Of course you have to take into account 10 years of technology.) I have made some mods as you can see by my signature and now it is awesome. So that's my humble opinion on the 6.0. I have read some articles that the 6.0 has some problems when you try to make it a 1000 hp engine, so be it, I'm not.
