Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

As many may have noticed we have an Aistream, which we thought we would just use for Airstream rallies. But, as life goes, some things happen. In November we sold our 2001 with 4 firm offers in less than a week. Our dream is to refurbish the 1974 in retirement, well we found a wonderful Guy locally and had to jump at it, he started in March gutting the AS. Hopefully by tomorrow it will be ready for pick up. We are so excited! Way over budget, but we couldn't stop, we want it totally functional and totally efficient, so we can now use it for more than a long weekend!! Will post some before and after pictures. Can you tell I am so excited! Just had to share! I know my fellow RVers here will totally understand; non-RVer friends, do not "get it".

Yes indeed, please post some pix.  Our family has owned 6 Airstreams and we have a 34’ Excella which lives in Florida now. 

 

They are a great rig, especially the earlier ones like your ’74.  A bit smallish for some, but that’s what the truck or suburban rear is for.  They tow like a dream for a tag trailer.

Hi All, we picked up the 74 Airstream Land Yacht on Tuesday evening and I spent most of 4th of July, cleaning and organizing and getting it loaded. I have to say here before everyone, my previous thoughts on full-timing in an Airstream would be rather inconvenient. But.....with all the new storage and layout, we are going to have lots of room. Of course, having a topper on the truck that allows for Dave's fly fishing gear and outside "stuff", like chairs and grills helps, but I am extremely pleased with our new layout and all the storage we have gained. I'm including my new blog space, where I am planning on adding the before and after pictures.

Having long term experience with Airstreams, family first had a 31’ ‘70ish rig, I can say congratulations on the make-over.  ‘Excellent choices and use of space.  I especially like the microwave with the cabinets above and below next to the fridge.  That’s a real good choice.  Great kitchen make-over as well.  Nice rear bath and I expect it has a real tub if memory serves.  Not a “garden tub.”  Those Airstreams tubs actually held water.  DW loved it.

 

The ‘70’s were excellent years for Airstream construction and you have made that trailer new and it will go another 20 years.  Fridge won’t – but the trailer will.  The old ones would run forever.

Nope, no tub. We have a new toilet, light fixture and trim around shower. Otherwise it's all original in the bathroom. Oh, we have a new shower head also. Shower is tight, but it works. Problem with the 74 is the tanks are pretty small, but we plan on staying in places with hook-ups and dump stations. We could probably boon-dock for a couple days with no problem. The room in the center is pretty much all original also except for the new coucho and moving the magazine rack and light to the other side so we could hang the picture my brother bought us.
The front of the trailer is all new, except for the cabinets over the sink and above the dinette, they are original. We are happy with it and will be getting some more miles out of it for the next few years (or longer hopefully).
June 2013 cannot come fast enough! Starting to clean out house and get organized for what we want to keep, or sell or give to Goodwill or pitch. Quite a ways to go yet, but at least we are getting started. Yeah!

Really, all our rear bath Airstreams had a real tub.  Side baths, of which we had one, were showers.  But they did make them a lot of different ways depending on length.

 

Anyway, nice rig and restoration.
