Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

We have a 2008 Mobile Suites.  The black tank valve is so difficult to operate, that I can't open it at all even when I brace myself & use both hands.  My husband can operate it but it's really tough, even for him.

We've dumped gallons of vegetable oil into the black tank, usually 1 gallon at a time.  It only helps slightly, right at that moment. The next time we dump, same thing, it takes a herculean effort to get the valve to open.

Anyone have any ideas how to make this valve easier to open on a consistent basis?

I have a 2008 Select Suite and had the same problem plus it did not hold water. I ended up replacing the valve and did it myself. If possible disconnect the cable from the valve and see if the cable operates freely. If so then the valve may need to be replaced. CW and other RV supply places sell replacement valves but they come with a 6 foot cable, mine and possibly yours is a 10 ft cable. Do not pull it out because it is a bear to replace it back into position. When I replaced it I used lots of vaseline on the gaskets and the sliding part of the valve and have not had any trouble since. B-T-W, nothing came out and dripped all over the place when I removed the old valve because I did a thorough backwash before I started.

In my opinion the long cable is most of the problem. In my 07 Elite the handle was almost impossible to move and never sealed the black tank completely. In my 11 Escalade the black tank valve is stuck open and inoperable. The warranty fix was to add an aftermarket blade valve at the end of the sewer outlet line. (no cable involved) It works great but when its below 32 I leave it open as there is about 8 ft of sewage filled pipe under the heated part of the trailer that can freeze.
