Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hi y'all! Nothing is busted or not working, but sometimes, my fuse box makes a sort of motor revving noise; is that normal, and what is it? Nothing ever happens when it does it. I have a new 2012 TT, so it's not old. It's just wierd.
I keep watching this post to see if anyone responds to it. I've never had this happen so I don't have a definite answer. However, if I did hear my fuse box make a revving noise I would try to isolate the sound. Is it a fuse or relay or circuit breaker or something else that is making the noise.
Relays will vibrate if they are going bad. I could see a circuit breaker also making noise if there were bad connections or a problem with the circuit breaker. The 12v circuit breakers look more like fuses or relays then what you see in a house. Some of your fuses may actually be a relay or a circuit breaker. There should be a list showing which are fuses and which are relays/circuit breakers.
Is there something near the fuse box that would make noise like the water pump, a speaker or some sort of device with a speaker, a valve with air or water...etc. Is there a cooling fan for an electrical device or refrigerator nearby. Your inverter or charger if TT is so equipped may will usually buzz (an electrical buzz) as it operates. These are often located near the fuse panel. Most also have a cooling fan which will cycle on and off plus rev up depending on the cooling needed.
If it's definitely something in or on the fuse box, you can also isolate the noise by disconnecting things one at a time if you are unable to tell which is making the noise. Go fuse by fuse, relay by relay

Is it possible that it is the cooling fan you are hearing? Feel the vents in front before and during the sound, if there is air flow, it is the fan. Mine makes a bit of noise as well.
Most likely the cooling fan from your voltage converter is running. Usually occurs when you are running a lot of 12 vdc lights which are powered by the converter when you are hooked up to power. If there are vents below the fuse box that is where the converter is located.

I'd bet money that it's the cooling fan on the converter you're hearing. Ours is located behind the panel box and makes the revving noise you're referring to. Nothing to worry about unless you don't hear the noise... then the converter might overheat!
