Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Can't wait to go

Hello All,

My wife and I are super excited about our future plans to Full Time.  We have 5 more years before my pension starts.  We hope to have everything ready before then.  We are both adventurous by nature so the open road has a very strong pull.  We hope to be in our new home at least a year before we pull up stakes.  We have pretty much decided on a TT for a couple of reasons.  Our decision is based on weight, cost, and height being the biggest concerns, as we love State Parks on the east Coast.  We are quite content to spend days in tents so the close quarters aren't a concern.  Where to put the kayaks, bikes, hiking gear and scuba gear are other considerations.  We have already started a page for our families to track our adventures.  It is in its infancy and will hopefully grow.  We will have tons of questions as we make our decision on our new home.  We love this site and are huge fans already.  Our website link should show up our signature and would love to hear from some veteran adventurers.  Stay safe and Happy travels!!

Mike and Becca,

Welcome to the forums as an active participant of them.  If you were like many of the rest of us, you may have "lurked" around for sometime before actually becoming active.  If so, you no doubt know that we welcome any and all question about RV'ing and the RV lifestyle.  (Heh, politics and religion....not so much.)

Feel free to ask questions and remember that there are no dumb questions, but there are the occasional "smart-alecky" answers.  So, I hope those don't get misunderstood, because I may be the one giving that smart-alecky answer.

A number of folks here have a lot of experience with travel trailers, so I would imagine that you will get a lot of help.  However, while you have a number of toys to carry along, also keep in mind that a travel trailer will be lacking in storage space.  But then, that all depends on what you feel the need to carry along.

Good luck with the research and planning.  Be sure and pick your RV before picking a truck so that you don't buy an RV that is too heavy for an "existing" truck.  A common saying is that you can have "not enough" truck but seldom does one have "too much" truck.  The right truck goes a long, long way towards handling an RV safely.

Terry

Good Morning Terry,

Thank you for the well wishes! And you are right, the lurking went on for a bit of time before we jumped in. My husband found this site and spent a great bit of time looking and learning (so much great information) and it took me a bit longer to start poking around...and I am so glad I did! My excitement at our new life amplified by 100% when I found answers to questions I didn't even know I had!

The research for our new home is ongoing and we did learn very fast that we need to decide on the RV first so that we would be able to purchase the right truck for the job. So many things to consider. And storage seems to be the one area we struggle with the most. Deciding on TT so the truck bed is available for use or the larger storage available on the fifth wheels. I am sure this forum will be most helpful as we continue to narrow things down and make the leap.

Currently I am already working on ridding our home of "things". I find myself looking at items and asking myself, "will this work in our RV", or "will I need this in our RV" or "is this worth taking up space in our RV". I have scanned family photos and begun giving them to the family. Small steps, but steps none the less!

As a sidenote, I enjoyed perusing your blog :)

Becca~

I am so impressed with the amount of knowledge on this forum. Becca and I were pretty sure we had decided on a TT in our future. After some reading and chatting that has all changed. We are now moving from a 1/2 ton truck and ultralite to a 3/4 ton diesel and a 5er. Not sure if the those out there that post realize it or not but your willingness to share information is amazing. We both thank you all for sharing and look forward to our future more and more everyday.

Mike

Welcome to the forum Mike. My wife and I started planning about five years ago and found this forum a couple of years ago. Now we're down to a couple of months.

Thanks Traduco. I know 5 years seems like a long time but I am curious are you finding you are prepared to start or are there loose ends still to be dealt with? My hope is we will be on the road before the ink is dry on my retirement papers. I really want to be ready so I hope to be living full time in our RV at least 6 months before then. Thanks again to all the posters out there.
