Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Not an RVer, but want to purchase tt and do something different & earn some money doing it. Caregiver for spouse, recently passed, for 7 years . Time for ME time. Own my home but need some distance for awhile .
Welcome to the RV Dreams forums. You have found a good source for information because the participants here have a lot of knowledge and are very helpful. Feel free to ask all the questions you want as we all tend to learn from the questions of others as well as our own.
As for the gate guarding information, there are a number of folks here that are doing or have done that. Check out the forum category entitled "Working and Volunteering on the Road" to find a lot of information on gate guarding as well as members with blogs who also describe their experiences on their blogs.
Good luck with the research and planning.

I have just recently started as a gate guard in South TX, as a solo. The job is easy. It is the 24/7 that is difficult. you can check out my blog if you like. I like the job part of it, it gets easier as you get familiar with what you are doing and the people that come and go seem to be really nice. I haven't figured out how I can get relief yet. I do have a sister that brings my mail to me and can go to the store for me, but isn't able to relive me. It is better to have a partner or have the relief set up first. Good luck if you decide that you want to do it.

After reading journals for the past 4 years as a fulltimer I have heard of many Work Camping jobs that are much better than sitting on a gate 24/7 with no relief. I would look around and talk to people that work camp often...There are many jobs out there that are more satisfying and accomplish the same thing.
A blogger we follow is Gate Guarding right now for their first time. Been at it about a month. Check out Greg & Jan White's blog at http://www.ourrvadventures.com/ for current info on the job. They are good friends with Nick Russell who also writes a great blog at http://gypsyjournalrv.com/
My DH and I would consider it IF/WHEN we are not working as mobile OSHA hearing techs. We make more that the GG now, but it is certainly a better income than workamping. And, you need to be willing to stay parked in the boonies down a dirt road for an extended time.
I would not consider it without a couple/partner/something arrangement as I need downtime. There isn't enough $$$ to have me work 7 days a week again. BTDT! Like everything, there are PROS & CONS, but the money is better than most opportunities we have seen advertized.
No sleep + Candace = no one wants to be around
