Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We have a new motorhome (2012 ACE) and are planning to go fulltime in June 2012. We are thinking about purchasing and carring a new tire for a spare - no rim. Any recommendations or suggestions? Thanks - papad
You did not mention the size of your motorhome or the size of the tires. In well over ten years, the only time I had to purchase a tire on the run, it was not a problem and only about 2.5 hours delay. (22.5 tire for Class A).
I agree that if you are to carry a "spare" just a tire is the way to go. However this consumes significant storage and weight. We have learned proper tire management (age, pressure and pretrip inspections) literally has been the answer.
Good quality tires that are properly maintained alleviate the need to give up storage space and carrying capacity.
Although, in the case of rare exceptions, you should do what works for you.

I respectfully disagree, and I carry an unmounted spare. I've heard about all the information that a tire company (roadside assist) will come to you and bring a tire, but what if they don't have that tire in stock? Are you going to accept a size that is not correct, or a used tire? Remember too that you have to pay whatever price the tire company charges.
I decided to order the correct tire for my MH as a spare and it took seven business days for it to come in.
I have mounted the rimless spare underneath my MH, attached to the frame rails so I don't lose any cargo space. There are other ways to carry a spare on a tow hitch, etc.
If I have a flat, the tire company can mount my spare. Not something I'm going to do anymore (did enough of it in my younger days).
For my peace of mind, I choose to carry the spare. It is an insurance policy for me, and I don't care if I never use it, it is there just in case.
Just my opinion, I'm sure many have had good luck with roadside flat changes.
Best Regards!
