Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
It began with carpool lanes. I would sit on the highway near a major city and watch the cars in the car pool lane whizzing by. The problem is that eventually even the car pool lane gets bunched up. So why don't they just open the lane up to anyone and let us all get there just a little bit faster.
Now the banks are doing it. You walk into the bank and there is a long line of people waiting for service and yet there is a bank employee standing in lobby greeting you..."Hi welcome to XYZ bank". Why not have that person open a window and we would all get helped a little bit sooner.
Even the Post Office has added a greeter. The other day I went into a main branch, there were 12 people in line and 4 windows open. A post office employee came up to me and asked what I was there for. She filled out a little check list and gave it to me to give the the window clerk. I was there to mail a letter first class...how much time did the greeter save by filling out the little form ???? Why not have the greeter open up another window and we would all get helped a little bit sooner.

Simple solutions - avoid lines whenever possible :)
1) Don't be tied to a schedule, you can avoid a lot of traffic that way.
2) Bank online and remotely. We deposit all our checks via our iPhone, and manage all our accounts online. We rarely ever need to go into a bank anymore.
3) Use the APC (Automated Postal Center) - it can handle most transactions, including selling you stamps to mail your letter. We also print postage online for packages such as flat rate boxes, and then just drop them off at a counter without waiting in line.
The Bear II Have seen and thought everything you mention here. Thanx for the great verbalization. Was worth missing part of my regularly scheduled programming for that. Keep up the good work.
Not where we live, but the personality some of those people have Wal-mart should not have them in the front of the store. I hate Wally World. I know someone that works there. They are not good to work for....
We have 3 super centers within 10miles of us and they took the greeters and put them further back into the store and now they are to help people find their way around. When they were in the front they mostly talked to the people coming in so you had to excuse yourself to get around them. Having greeters in other places just seems senseless to me. That is what the information desks are for. I guess if it just to put older/ or handicapped people to work for a few hours a day it is a good thing. If they would just smile!
When I worked in retail, "Greeting" was more of a security measure than real greeting. As I recall, greeting each one who entered, and making eye contact, was more to let customers know we were aware of their presence in our store. Not sure if it worked, but we were advised that shrinkage went down in relation to how often customers were acknowledged. This was years ago, before Walmart was nationwide. The store I worked at was not Walmart.
