Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
With all the natural disasters in the past few years, I was wondering if anyone has done any type of workamping that involved volunteering with a christian group of people who help those victims of natural disasters get back on their feet. It seems to me that I have read about a group that goes around and does this sort of thing. Bob and I would like to be part of that team when the time comes that we can sell our house and hit the road. Anyone ever hear of a group like that? Thanks for your input!
Habitat for Humanity; although I am not sure if they are Christain based. I believe their is a Methodist Outreach group for disaster aid. Do a web search with the words: disaster help, volunteers, Christain based, work campers; may help. I believe others may chime in. Pieere

On our Volunteering On The Road page, under "Cause-Based Volunteering" about half way down, we list five volunteer organizations for RVers and details about each.
The first two, RV Care-A-Vanners (Habitat For Humanity) and D.O.V.E. (Disaster Operations Volunteers Escapees/American Red Cross) specifically include disaster relief as part of their missions.
The last three are faith-based organizations that I'm sure get involved with disaster relief in some way.
Certainly there are others, but these five are very well established.
Just a point of clarification, Habitat for Humanity lists themselves as a Christian based group, and all of their work days begin with devotionals.
Good for the OP, perhaps.
Downside for us tho.. as this would be a perfect sort of volunteer gig that otherwise fits our style (short term commitments, no big ramp up of training/qualifications, sometimes available last minute to sign up, excellent cause, physical movement, etc.). We love to give/volunteer for causes that speak to us that are not tied to any particular faith system. Maybe we'll give it a try sometime and see if that part can be separated out from the experience.
Good Sam also has a Disaster group that responds to such events. It is made up of volunteer RVers. Check out Good Sam's web site. Sorry I don't have more details.
