Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Water system - what does this mean?

We took our new (to us) trailer to the coast for our first trip.  The campsite did not have hookups but they did have a dump tank and a water station.  We filled up and got the trailer situated.

I turned the water pump switch on since we didn't have city water.  It seemed to work just fine.  However, I heard it come on a few times in the middle of the night for about 1 or 2 seconds then shut off.  Outside, in the morning, I saw a little bit of a drip but I couldn't tell where it was coming from.

Does a water pump coming on in the middle of the night mean that I have a leak somewhere?  I did buy the EasyCare warranty.  Would this be covered?

small leak somewhere, or a valve that isn't closed tight.

It could be a leak but it could also be the water pump check valve not working properly or as mentioned above, a valve. If it were a valve it would likely be one related to one you can open or close when you either connect to a city water connection or fill your holding tank. If you have an ice maker in your fridge the pump will also kick in each time it makes ice.
The little drips are the worst. First, they are easy to ignore (don't ignore a drip!) and they can be a real pain to find if they lead back somewhere to a leak. I sure hope you have an ice maker!

No ice maker. So I guess I'll have to take this to Camping World to see if its covered under my EasyCare warranty.

Cameron,

First of all, welcome to the RV Dreams forums.  There are a lot of knowledgeable folks here that have a wealth of information.

Good luck with finding and fixing the drip.  Sometimes they are not much more than a loose connections somewhere.

Terry

Thanks Terry. That's what I'm hoping. I don't want to neglect ANYTHING on this rig. I want to keep it nice.

Did you make sure to get all the air out of your lines? Maybe check the water heater valve?

We had an older camper that did that and we replaced and checked everything we could and
we never did find out what caused the problem.

I ran the kitchen faucet until the water came out smooth with no air bubbles.  Was there something else I was supposed to do?

It could also be a drip in the sink or shower.  I hope you find it!

Also check under the rv to see if there is a drip, it is possible that the fresh water drain could be leaking.

I did see a drip but it wasn't on the side of the fresh water drain.  I'll have to fill it up again to check it.  It was hard to tell what was going on because it had been raining earlier.

My pump comes on once or twice during the night and I know it's due to a very slow drip from the bathroom sink faucet.  Plus we do have an ice maker.

I would also look in the cabinets under the sinks, shower and also where the water pump is located to look for any water indicating a connection maybe leaking. Try to follow the water lines from the pump through any cabinets where they may be exposed and also from the water heater. Look for leaks or wet spots.

Point out any you fine to Camping World so they can check and repair.
