Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hi All, Stopped today and looked at a Redwood 5th Wheel. We were impressed. Just wondering if anyone has any experience or has heard anything since they are a fairly new company.

I haven't looked at the Redwood itself, but have looked at information about them on the internet, specifically their website. While some have spoken of the WOW factor, I really didn't see anything that really "rang my bell."
One of the things I need to find out is the design of the frame. I'd also like to see more in the way of the construction of the units. While looks might impress potential buyers, the foundation of the axles, wheel and their sizes, and the suspension. That is basically the foundation for the frame, which is the foundation for the rest of the RV.
Being in a Mobile Suites, anything that would impress me would have to really be good.

Actually, I wouldn't want compensation. I "promote" Mobile Suites because we have one and love it. When I know of a product that I think is exceptional, I have no problem with making positive comments about them.
Are they for everyone? Nope. Many don't look at this lifestyle the same as I do, thus I wouldn't propose something as expensive for those that might only be "part time" full time RV'ers.
Jo and I have sold everything in the way of homes and almost all the things that go into them so that we can live in our RV and eventually travel to see this beautiful country. Thus, we have no problem with "paying" for what is now our home.
During our research, I saw several brands/models that I would have thought good enough to full time in, but as circumstances evolved, we were able to afford the Mobile Suites. Prior to finding our Ford F450 as a good used truck, we were considering a lighter, less expensive fifth wheel which could be pulled by a Ford F350. Our savings by buying the F450 as used made the difference in our choices.

Terry I agree, just walk thru a Suites and then other 5th wheels there is a difference. We see and feel it every time we go to the Tampa Super RV show.. We also felt the same each time we looked at 5th wheel prior to buying our first Suites.. The price on the Counter was what always turned us away.... I did look at the Redwoods in Tampa this year, it has a wow factor.. But it don't have the frame like the Mobile Suites.... Happy Trails..
P.S. I receive no compensation from Drv. However if Drv would like to compensate me for my comments, please send it to my Florida address, fuel is expensive....

I know what you mean about the frame and axles... We recently looked at a 5th wheel that we liked... GVWR was right at 14,000 lbs. Checked the axles... 2 5,000 lbs axles... What the hey????

I looked at the Redwood in detail at Tampa. It has some flash. But I was not impressed once I started looking closer. You HAVE to cut somewhere to put in the amenities and flash. IMO fit and finish and materials were not impressive. It does have some nice features. But so do other units. IMO, it does not compare to a Mobile Suite. Let alone an Elite. Just my opinion, and others may vary. Each has to choose what works for them. Just remember - there is no magic in RVs. If it seems to good, you should question why? You basically get what you pay for.

Delaine, if you and especially Terry promote DVR products on other forums as much as you do here I am truly surprised you are not compensated.
As for promoting Drv, I think if you can't promote something or give advice and learn from others it wouldn't be fun. When Howard & Linda got their Cambridge 358 we had the same. The Cambridge was a great 5th wheel and wish many times we had kept it even though Keystone on made it one year.. But all 300+ Cambridge's sold. Never knew for sure why Keystone stop building, however it was the same time Katrina hit and many builders were building FEMA trailers. And to the Cambridge was a heavy 5th wheel that required a 1 ton in my opinion..
We were full timing in the Cambridge and my Delaine's mom had some Medical issues and we decided to quit full timing and stay and help her mom, that was in Nov. when we sold the Cambridge and the 1 ton Chevy. If Keystone had still been building the Cambridge we would have went with a Cambridge... However I have to have a Truck and when we delivered the rig, the day after we sold the Truck and Cambridge I went and picked up a new Chevy 3500HD DRW's. After staying in Tennessee from Nov. till Feb. we bought another 5th wheel but we only kept it for less than a month and went and bought our first Mobile Suites.. And the rest is history. We traveled a year in our 2009 Mobile Suites and went to the Drv Factory and ordered our 2010 Mobile Suites. We are happy with the Suites.. For our use the Mobile Suites is the best. For others what ever they have must be the best for their use.... However I can say Jack Mayers has a awesome buy as for 5th wheels.. and if your looking for a complete ready to go RVing, its something you should look at. But make sure you buy the Truck also.... Turn key situation..... Happy Trails....

Hey guys not picking on DVR at all, haven't had the opportunity to go thru one yet but am looking forward to it. We have had our Jayco for almost 2 years now and it has been from the East Coast (North Carolina) to the West Coast (Washington) to Alaska (3 1/2 month) and back to Idaho. Last summer we workamped in Custer SD we are now in Tucson AZ. Last winter we still had the SnB so we stayed in Idaho. All in all I would say that we have pulled around 15,000 miles with no major problems not even at flat tire (Knock On Wood). Ours was 2 years old and I bought it from a private party paid $36K. Is it built as well as DVR products, probably not. But that extra 30 to 40K sure looks good in my bank account. Haven't had any frame, axle, or wheel problems. I do have to agree the extra insulation and double pain windows would be nice. We just compensate by going South when its cold and going North when its hot. Our 1 ton Dodge pulls just fine and has passed a lot of Fords on the hills, the Chevy Duramax gives more of a challenge.
Terry, you have all the right to be proud you have a great set up. It just seems like that when anyone asks about a different brand (Heartland, Redwood, etc) you hijack the subject and start listing the specs of your Mobile Suites. If it hasn't sold yet, there is a setup in the classifieds that I would consider the "Class A" of 5th wheels. You don't see them jumping in and pushing theirs over anyone else's.

Ron
Ron,
A lot of what I do is provide options, and possibly suggestions. That is one of the values of forums. I also agree that New Horizons are great fifth wheels, but when they come as expensive as they do, we couldn't afford that. Like it or not, DRV products are viable alternatives to those that want them.

Terry,
"Like it or not", what that suppose to mean? Show me where I have said anything negative about DVR or any other Brand RV.
I didn't see where anyone asked for a comparison between brands or models, I thought it was that if anyone had any info on the Redwood 5th wheels. You started off with what you had learned from the web sites and your opinion of the product. Why not just leave it at that.
I also think if you were to own a Tiffan you WOULD drive it to your Dr appointments. Thats from the Heartland post where you chose to jump in on a question that was directed to the person that started the topic.
Nothing was meant personally towards you with that choice of words.
However, in the past, I had a gentlemen post that after reading my blog, seeing the pictures of our Mobile Suites on my Photobucket account, and "putting up with me 'selling' DRV products," he was going to quit the forums and expressed the hope that he never saw me parked next to him in an RV park.
I guess it was with that in mind that I inserted those words. If it sounded like I was being critical of you, it wasn't meant as such. But, if it did, I apologize.
Now, since this thread has been hijacked, I should mention that I doubt that you've seen the parking lot at my doctor's office. It is not the place I would take any kind of RV, other than a slide in camper. I would never try to drive a 40 or 42 foot motorhome into there.
Now, if the replies can be directed back to the comments of the original poster, it would be a good thing.

The Nu Wa manufacturer in Chanute, KS had a used one on their lot 2 weeks ago when we stopped by. Not sure if it is still available.
Nu Wa makes an excellent quality fulltimer rig, and they take good quality rigs in on trade also. They refurbish fifth-wheels also. We didn't see any low-quality fifth-wheels on their lot. Everything from Excel, a New Horizons, lots of Nu Was, a Carriage, D Suites, all top notch rigs.
You may want to give Sean in Sales at Nu Wa a call and get the info on it.
