Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

RVPAINTER------You may know this but not all water heaters use an anode rod---it the WH tank is aluminum no rod is necessary, however if it is a steel tank an anode rod is a very good thing and you had better not go with out one. None of my RV's (3) have had anode rod's. If your tank needs one it will have come from the factory with one installed, it would need replaced yearly, two at the most.

ATWOOD brand does not need an Anode Rod, SUBURBAN heaters do need a Rod, Flyone is correct...

Don't buy the universal short one that fits either Atwood, which doesn't need an anode rod, or Suburban, that does need one. You want the long one since you need all the metal you can get. Aluminum is fine and I think that is what Suburban's own are. I guess I am lucky, I change it about every other year and each time I could have gone longer since plenty has been left on the rod each time with my 10gallon water heater. Do buy teflon tape, it is cheap, and make sure you have the right socket.

Thanks Bill - yes, PPL has the longer one for the Suburban. I'll wait and see what the manual specifies and then order one to have on hand.

We have a Suburban 6gl as well. The anode rod takes place of the drain plug, on ours anyway. Check it every 6 months or so. Haven't had to replace it in awhile.
