Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Lining Things Up

Picking up our 2012 Nexus 31P on April 4th.  Starting to get all the ducks in a row.  Researched and asked for insurance quotes from 5 Insurance agencies.  On the advice of Howard, Miller Insurance was one of these. Both Miller and Good Sam came in at the exact same price and both quotes were from GMAC.  We decided on Miller as we would rather if NEED BE deal with an agency and the same person as compared to a 1-800 number and many different people at Good Sam.

Both of these quotes were $350 - $400 per year cheaper than the others.  We bundled our Rv and our Honda Fit.

Those are pretty good videos, I enjoyed them myself. I've started the DW on backing into our storage parking area and even she has a better grasp due to the videos. Although she is still a little bit intimidated being behind the wheel of our 40' MH. Small steps........

I am sure you must have, but did you check into Explorer as well? I would be interested to see how they came out in the mix.

Bill - Explorer and Poliseek were both close to $345 per year higher than GMAC. Explorer was the highest quote.

Bill - FYI - the only company Explorer got a quote from was National Interstate Insurance Co.

Richard,

I'm glad you got some good prices through GMAC.  I called several places about two weeks ago and GMAC came out way high on their price.  They wanted almost as much for 6 months that the others did for a year.

I have more looking to do, so I may call them back again to see if another "agent" comes up with the same price.

Two months won't take long to pass.

Terry

It's amazing how one company can be good for some and bad for others. We too called Miller Agency and out of several companies quoted National Interstate was the best deal of the bunch.

RVPainter and RVRon, I believe you're both towing a Honda Fit.  I'll be buying a tow vehicle within the next couple of months.  Did/do you have to make modifications in order to tow it, or was it tow ready?  What do you think of the size of that car for a tall person (6'2")?  Thanks.

There are no mods needed for the Honda Fit to be towable other than the usual mounting of the base plate and wiring. Honda does have a procedure in their manual for getting ready to tow involving idling for 3 minutes in neutral. I printed out the procedure and laminated it so I wouldn't forget something.

You'd have to check if the "Fit fits" your body to be sure but I have lots of room at 5' 11" with the 2008 version. They've had a redesign since then so you'd have to probably check the showroom if you're looking to buy new.

I'm not towing yet as I pickup our 2012 NEXUS 31P on 4/4/12. I'm 5' 10" and there is plenty of room for me - we have a 2012 Fit. I'd go to a dealer and sit in one to make sure!

Thanks guys.  The challenge is that I may be going alone ahead of time to purchase the car.  I'm a foot shorter.  But, I can probably find a 6'2" man around to see if the Fit fits.

RVPAINTER, congrats on your purchases.  Enjoy the road!  Hope to be there soon ourselves.

We tow our MINI with our 35' bus...  it is quite an extreme to go from driving one to the other :)  You'll do fine tho, just take it slow and easy.

Our agent also placed us with GMAC for both the bus and the MINI. Not only where their prices right, they were the only company that would get us good enough full-timers coverage on our bus convesion.  Miller, unfortunately, refused to work with us as our situation was too complex for them (guess they don't get too many requests for people driving RVs older than them).

Congrats on another step to hitting the road!

Thanks Cherie - we traded in our 2007 standard shift Mini Cooper for a 2012 Honda Fit as Mini Cooper said our Mini could not be towed all 4 down and if we did the remaining warranty would be void. We are happier with the Honda Fit - more room - more comfort and a much nicer ride.
The Mini was a lark - we had our fun and loved to sport around in it but now a need to be more practical. I was also concerned with the sparse Mini dealers/maintenance thru out the USA and our travels.
