Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Slide out topper flapping

Having found this a common problem, I have designed a product that will solve this and can be installed without a ladder or going on the roof. It is easily removed and collapsed for storage during transit. I expect it can be made inexpensively and priced accordingly. Before I put the effort into formal design, patenting, and manufacturing I would like to see if you all are even iterested in such a thing.

THanks for any feed back

Denjen

I am interested. I would think anyone with slide awnings would be. You have covered two key points with easy to install without a ladder and easy to collapse to store. For me, another key point I'm looking for is a design that is one piece so allot of time is not spent setting up or collapsing it and no pieces to be lost.

I've seen a product that is inflatable to solve this problem. I believe it was carried by Camping World at one time.

However, I've never seen anyone use one. In fact, in all of my travels I've never seen anyone use anything to stop the flapping on slide toppers. I read about someone who had built something out of PVC piping to stop the problem, the pieces could be taken apart for travel.

On mine I have tightened the tension spring to eliminate flapping. We've been in 30 to 40 MPH winds with no problems.

Here are some other solutions:

RV Awning Airwedge is one product I found via internet searching. I researched the product but didn't like a couple things about it. First, the blue color, the only color, not good. Second, they only come in one size. It would be too long for our bed slide, and the living room slide was too short for 2 wedges. While one would stop the flapping, I didn't like the idea of leaving the ends open for catching the wind and possibly tearing.

If they would make custom sizes and colors I would seriously consider purchasing them. Our super slide has a center support and I would love to have 2 short wedges that plug the opening at each end of the slide topper. While I love our slide toppers for keeping the area clean and dry, they really are noisy when the wind is blowing making it impossible to sleep. I'm interested to see what solution you have devised.
