Questions Asked about Full Time RV Living

We love the questions we're asked about our full time RV living lifestyle! Always thrilled to share our story and see the light come on in someone's eyes as they catch the dream.

I just wrote a blog post about some of the questions we've been asked . . . enjoy!  http://www.empowernetwork.com/bruceandtrisha/blog/all-about-full-time-rv-living/

Bruce and Trisha,

Awwwww......

......you had to go and call yourselves "hippies."

I have to disagree with that description, at least for the moment.

I meant to leave this message at your blog, but I didn't see anything but Facebook as a way to leave comments.  We don't do Facebook, and even though I've been "invited" to try Google's G+ (or whatever they call that), I'm not convinced that I need to be a part of a social network other than the RV forums.

Good write-up and I've bookmarked your blog for further reading.

Bruceand Trisha: Checked out your Blog! I'm going to have to set some time aside and view it more. My anticipated day is (August 2013) to start a PT retirement income. Why not now? I am in the planning stages, have to become a bit more Blog Technical Savvy. Heck, six months ago I didn't know how to do a simple email. I also have a problem staying focused. I don't want to disclose what it is, but will say; It has something to do with Photos; Art; and Writng.
I am another who stays away from FaceBook and Twitter, although I have a Twitter Account; guess I will have to use them in the future! I have a Linkedin Account and think it's great. I have experienced a lot of problems with security breaches. Have had three computers die, I believe due to spyware attacks. This one has MSE and a couple others that will run alongside it.
Have been back on the road fulltiming since the Fall of 09' and have three places lined up since the beginning of 11'. All include include FHU's, some the added benefits are a bit better. I am trying a new employer this Mid-May to the end of September (trying new things cause a bit of apprehension) but; once I get familiar with the people and locations it gets better.
I will have to follow up on your blog and opportunity. Right now; I am doing some R&R and soul anfd thought searching (Scary) but; one does not gain anything by letting life pass us by. Happy Trails! Pieere

Hey Bruce & Trisha,

Loved the blog!biggrin  Would rather be camping next to a couple of "ole' hippies," than a bunch of uptight, fun hating, old codgers....LOL Hope to meet you on the road some day.

Pierre - it's great to connect with you.  Thanks for checking out our blog ... the best thing it has done for us is to just get it going.  We've been right where you are - getting ready to get ready.  This blog platform takes care of the technical stuff so I can just concentrate on doing what I love - writing! Then, along the way we're learning more of the technical stuff from the training and webinars provided, at our own pace.  It helps with the focus struggle - I write, post the articles and learn a little more about all the hows, when, where, why stuff as I go.

So - travel and art and photography?  Awesome!  Perfect combination!  Next to writing, photography is my passion.  There are so many beautiful scenes all around - everywhere we go - I love capturing the moment in a photograph and sharing it with others.  Sounds like you've got a great plan in place . . . and the soul searching - yep! Scary but rewarding!

Where is your job located in May?

Keep in touch - Let us know if we can help in any way.

Hi Terry,

I clicked on  the link for this site and WOT (Web Of Trust) blocked the site and redirected me to their feedback page.  After reading some of the posts, I'm not sure whether I should avoid them like the plague or join them and give it a whirl.

As a fulltimer I use the internet a lot for news, research, reference, etc. but can't say I have a very good grasp of all the marketing schemes (traps) out there.  Like many others I'm not one to communcate through Facebook, Twitter, or other social networking mediums.

If you choose to review the info about the Empower network as protrayed by WOT I'd be curious to know what insight you may have.  Typically when WOT tells me to avoid sites on the internet I do because they have many more resources than I do.  Thanks for your reply.

Bruce

Mark and Nancy . . . how cool is it that the picture of Sedona you have as your profile picture is the very same picture I have as my wallpaper on my laptop?  Great minds, you know . . .

We have a long list of RVers who we hope to meet on the road - sit around a campfire - share some laughs - watch a sunset.

Can't wait for our paths to cross!  You, too George!

Peace and Love . . .

Hello Bruce and Trisha~

Just bought my very first RV today! As soon as my house sells, I am hitting the road full time. Of course, this is very scary since it is all new to me, but I read your blog and this is exactly what made me want to try this lifestyle. I am stepping out of the box and all of the expectations society thinks is "normal". I am tired of commuting daily in traffic and living a mundane 9-5 routine day in and day out. I know there has to be so much more to life and I hope to find it on the open road:)

Your blog is inspirational and gives me the courage to do this...which is good cause there is no turning back now (I signed papers today:))

I look forward to reading more!

Beth

I like reading blogs and enjoyed yours. I have about eight active blogs from RV trailer tires to Civilian Campgrounds & RV parks. It’s a hobby and more fun than journal writing.

I once wrote a topic on an internet forum titled; “do you consider yourself a fulltimer”?

Before the topic got closed for “flaming” there were some very interesting posts from individuals who described their form of “full timing” as the only true way to do it. The flaming started about labels. Lots of people resented being labeled, saying they were just RVers. Some people just liked the fact that their home was an RV which allowed them to move from place to place and take their home with them.

For five years our only home was our RV. We traveled all over the country and considered ourselves “full timers”. Because of a family members sickness we purchased a doublewide manufactured home in a senior retirement community (55+). All of our ground and yard maintenance needs are taken care of by the community so we are now traveling more than six months of the year again. Nobody we know now considers us full timers because we have a part-time storage location for our fiver and truck. We still feel like full timers when we are on the road because our travel habits still mimic those established long ago when we sold everything and hit the road in our dually truck with our 38 footer in tow.

I think the best benefit of the RV-Dreams forum is we don't have flame wars. That keeps the "Word and Rule Police" from nitpicking a topic to death. We don't have to debate each individuals definition of "fulltimer", "boondocking", "affordability", etc., and not answer the important questions.

Hi Beth,

I can hear your excitement and positivity about hitting the road FT. I too, just got my first road abode ( a 'little' TT) and am both excited and a little nervous. Just nervous I think cuz I'll be flying solo. But I definitely am dreaming big and eager for the adventure! I have been totally sucked in to this forum (joined last week) for info and advice. Folks are so nice and sincere. But just want to say hi- it feels good that others are just starting out too! Good luck in all. see you on the boards.

Beth - don't it feel so good?  Maybe we all have a bit of rebel in us, because it feels so good to rebel against what society considers "normal."  I spent an hour yesterday talking to a young man that graduated with a history degree, $30,000 in debt for college loans and he's working in copier sales.  When I asked him where he would love to live . . . his eyes lit up and he shared his dream of just hitting the open road - travel - adventure . . . exactly the same dream we all share - freedom!

Congratulations on the big step you have taken . . . and get ready for the most wonderful experiences!  You are doing what most people only daydream about.  Yay for you!

Trisha

WHY would anyone get a degree in History if they were not intending to teach? Sorry - just can't see the value of that in today's job market....and the foreseeable future. And the same thing applies to many liberal arts programs....

Ah, FORTRAN.....a blast from the past. I worked on the development of the standards for FORTRAN 77 and Fortran 90. Just a part-time job for me, along with other things I was doing in the industry.

Fortran on stacks of cards, a brand new 16k machine, and two day turnaround with the results to be read in 80 character groups on each output card.  Who could ask for anything more?  Actually felt just as obselete when I retired and everyone in my office was born after I went to work for NASA.  The new kids didn't have experience but they had some powerful tools and great training.

Fulltiming is a welcome lifestyle whether we are seeing new places or learning about a new town or part of the country.

FORTRAN was my first programming language and my first exposure to compiler design. I was trying to understand how the same FORTRAN program could run on a Z80 under CPM, an IBM mainframe, and a CDC mainframe. The answer changed my life since I discovered assembler and from then on I could get down to the low levels to understand the foundations of about any computer, including today's machines where amazing performance comes out of interpreters and JIT (just-in-time) code generation.

Bill, part of my career - back when I was an actual programmer - was spent writing FORTRAN compilers. Myself and two other guys wrote a FORTRAN77 compiler in Algol....

Compiler writer is one of those jobs you can't explain to most people so we get excited when someone else has done it.

WHOA!!!   The latest "tangent" of this thread probably belongs on the "Technology on the Road" category of the forums.  After all, that stuff seems to be WAY down the road by now.

Sorry, guys.  I couldn't resist "dating" you time and age-wise with this one.

 Hello Soody,

I apologize for the late reply. I have not been on and forgot to log out. Yes, I am waaaay excited to get the show on the road. My house just went under contract and closing is mid October...yeah baby! I have been spending weekends at campgrounds just to get familiar with it all. I only have about 4 weeks in so far so this is all happening rather quickly. In the 6 weeks I will be a full timer!! How about yourself? Are you already full timing or planning on it? Being solo would be a bit much for me but I am sure it will be a great opportunity for you. It sounds good for the soul:)

Thank you for taking time to reply Trisha.

It feels amazing to be doing this! It is already freeing if you will. My house closes mid Oct so I hit the road end of Oct to begin my journey. I can hardly contain myself:)

Unfortunately, I see that all to often, new grads not finding work in their area of study and then have multiple thousands of dollars in loans to repay. This seems like a much simpler way to live. I have told many people of my plan as this is all I talk about now:), and the vast majority reply with "I've always wanted to do that" and how cool it sounds. It takes a lot to "give up" the comforts of a home and security of a good job but I  think it will be replaced with so much more. So here goes...I am counting down the days until take off:))))

Cheers~

Beth
