Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

HWH Jack Solenoid

We now have to replace our second HWH jack Solenoid (both rear) in less than 5 months.   Has anyone else had recurring problems with this or have any idea what the life span of a solenoid should be?   This seems excessive to me.  Our Winnebago Brave is just 7 years old.  Are these parts that commonly fail in less than 10 years???

Thanks for any replies.

Sherry

make sure your replacement part is OEM (factory original)......off market units on the whole are cheap copies and some mechanics will
sell them without asking you and the mark-up is very profitable to them..

also what they looked like when they are removed (condition) could give you an answer as to why.......are they exposed to harsh outside road grime....or moisture..

is there sand or silt on them.......these are all factors

is there a possibility that there is voltage leakage that is burning the coil out

Mike thanks so much for the thoughts.  We bought both solenoids directly from HWH and have and will replace them ourselves.  It's not hard and the techs at HWH are great about support.

No idea how to find out if there is a short somewhere.   Does 7 years seem to you to be a short life on the original solenoids??

Being a service Tech. in several fields myself Ive developed the thought that "murphy is involved in everything" and the 7 yr rule applies to all manufactured items......

I have installed systems that last only 5 to 10 years and Im frequently working on systems that are 25 to 30 years old!!!!

But I do find the newer the item is it is now built for profitability not for long life

It used to be you could ask your Grandfather what he made for a living.....and he would say with pride he was a lineman at the ford factory and he made cars of quality

You could ask your father and he would say with pride he worked for General Electric as a Tech. and he made transformers some of the best in the world....

Ask that same question today and the normal response would be 45 to 100 thousand a year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Americas goal is now profit ....profit ....profit

Want Precision ,Quality and engineering......go elsewhere that cuts into the budget!!!
