Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hubby and I will be leaving Florida in March heading westward.....would like to stop in New Oleans for a few days and take in the sites. Does anyone have a favorite campground here for a big rig, and do we need to find a place that has security??
Also any information on tours, etc. would be appreciated too. Thanks again!!!
Usually stay at the casinos in Bay St Louis. Mississippi. Its about 30-40 minutes to NO (not real close). Just an idea in case NO campgrounds don't work out. Stayed in Slidel (a bit closer) years ago but didn't like it.
We stayed at one on lake pontchartrain.. it was fenced and was only a few years old with big rig pull throughs. . it also had a shuttle to go into new orleans. The best part was they accepted passport america.
We stayed at the French Quarter RV Resort on a trip thru. It's pricey, but has a locked gate, completely walled in, great amenities (hot tub, onsite bar, bath suites, fitness room) and spacious sites for big rigs. It's easy access from most major roads.
And the best part, depending on what you want to do in NOLA, is that it's only a couple of blocks from the the French Quarter - making wandering the streets accessible, and stumbling back realistic :) They recommend that you don't walk from the FQ back at night for security reasons, but we had no troubles ourselves getting around entirely on foot and not hailing cabs. Apparently during some events they do run a shuttle.
They do accept Passport America for one or two nights, I believe and then have the standard 10% discount for other clubs. Still comes out to about $40-60/night tho (rack is $79 for non peak times).
Have fun!

we've stayed at both Ponchartrain Landing and the French Quarter RV resort several times. both are secure and quite nice. Ponchartrain Landing is much less expensive but is further out of town, about 7-10 miles from the FQ I think whereas FQRV resort is walkable. while there I HIGHLY recommend the WWII museum, a riverboat trip on the Natchez, and Beignets at Cafe Du Monde, as well as the usual Bourbon and Frenchmen St. There is a museum in Jackson square too, but I forget what its called. It was good though. a lot of times there are street performances in the square. if you have time, take the trolley around. you can get on and off at will and its a great way to see the city. Make sure you google the NOLA calendar to see what events there are. there always seems to be something going on there. have fun, its a great city!
If you decide to stay on the Northshore, visit the Abita Brewery. They have free tours that includes all the free beer you can drink in an hour -13 varieties! ;)

Bayou Segnette State Park is only 20 minutes or so from downtown. Great sites, 50 amp, and good free wifi. Park at West Algiers and take free ferry right to downtown. Around $18 a nite when we where there 2 years ago.
We stayed at the French Quarter RV Park last year and I must say it is a very nice RV park. I would give it a 10. We called a cab to take us to the FQ, they came right to our MH, picked us up, gave us a tour and brought us back to the MH. They have a great pool, hot tub, computer room, brick sites and electric gate. A great place to visit. Follow the signs from Xway.
