Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
My name is Kelley, I'm 45, single and relatively recently disabled.
I posted in the "Buying an RV" section but it was marked as spam - hopefully that will be fixed soon.
I don't have much knowledge of RVing but am trying to move out of state, and cannot afford to pay for two places at once, so one of my old college friends has generously offered to allow me to park my travel trailer in his backyard. When I sell the house I could buy a new house in that state and use the trailer for vacations, or buy some land of my own and put the travel trailer on it, or just keep living in the travel trailer.
I'm having a hard time imaginng giving up my "stuff" particularly I am a clothes and shoe horse and I think I have more makeup than would even fit in the TT!
Hi Kelley, welcome. I am sure you will get alot of good advice here. I know I am learning alot. As far as giving up 'stuff', it is a little intimidating at first but afterwards you realize it is just an extension of your freedom. That is how I look at it and I am moving right along with finding new homes for all of my 'stuff'. A liberating feeling. Good luck to you,
Hi Kelley and welcome to the forum. My wife and I are planning to give up all of our "stuff" one day soon and hit the road full-time. I definitely agree with Loretta regarding getting rid of it can be intimidating. We have talked a few times about what we would get rid of, and what we would keep when we hit the road. It's not as easy as it would seem, but the more we talk about it, the easier it gets in deciding what goes and what stays. We keep telling ourselves that the new, more simple lifestyle will be worth getting rid of the stuff that is holding us down at present. It's an exciting prospect! Good luck with your decision.

Unfortunately I have discovered a hitch in my plans. Apparently my house is worth half what I paid for it 8 years ago.
We're in the same boat, stherngirl! We just sold a rental home as part of our "getting rid of stuff" program and got less for it than we paid in 1996! We haven't put our primary home on the market yet but we're not expecting to get as much as we'd hoped for it. It's required a revision of our plans, but not a cancellation - we're determined to get to the fulltime RV life!
You might consider renting your home if you don't need the proceeds right away. Because so many people are bailing out of their homes and need somewhere to live the rental rates are better than ever right now. We're giving thought to renting for a couple of years to see if the home value gets back up to something reasonable.
