Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I noticed today after I returned from a trip to Houston, that my tires are running very close together. They are inflated to 80psi as stated on the tag posted on my rig. The rear tire seems to be crowned like it is over inflated - more so than the front tire. The is the same on both sides. In the last photo you will notice a tire gage does not fit between the tires. The photos are of the driver side so left tire is front, and right tire is rear. Yes, these are IronMan tires. Yes I will be replacing them with Goodyear G614. I just was not ready to do that yet.
Should I worry?

Jerry,The Cedar Creek I just sold was the same way.I replaced the 235x85's with 235x 80's and it gave me an inch more room.It did not affect the way it pulled or rode at all.P.S I drove thousands of miles with them that close and it caused me no problems.Go to my blog post dated December 8th for pictures.www. geolinsblog.blogspot.com

RVing probably not a reality any more.It was a good time while it lasted.
Thanks, I do know that the tires did not run that close together when we first got the trailer. I was able to mount a stabilizer lock between the tires that now does not fit. My concern is if the tire expands when heating from highway driving and they touch, that could likely cause the tires to self destruct.

With the abnormal wear I would be checking to see if something bent...the clearance between them seems a little bit too close for comfort. I help park a lot of rigs know there are tremendous forces put on those axles when backing. Are the tires on both sides this close together? Curious, how big is that stabilizer lock that used to fit between the tires?

Dan, Both sides are the same. I wanted to try a pair of Bal X-Chocks to see if that took some of the movement out of the trailer. When I purchased the X-Chocks, I could set them between the tires - I just never used them. At that time there was about 1 1/2 inches between the tires. Also, at that time, the tires where not crowned as they show in the photo.
I understand about the lateral forces on the wheels - one tire going one way while the other tire going the other way.
Thanks guys.

Jerry:
Worry, leading to investigation, is sometimes a good thing.
I accept that all here and otherwise is speculation, but have you considered the possibility that an axle has shifted? You can get that for various reasons and I won’t try to diagnose that from pictures. But I do know that axles on leaf spring hangers have been known to shift from wear or other causes. (I am assuming your rig has leaf springs.)That would be my first thought regardless of the brand of trailer.Something caused the tires to get closer together based on your comments and measurements. Therefore for various reasons my first thought is not just over inflation.
BTW, have you considered, and I know they are expensive, going to G114 "H" tires? They will likely outlast the trailer and IMO, are well worth the money. I do have adventures to back that up.
Yes Bill, my rig has leaf springs. That got me thinking about physics of the suspension. As weight is added to the trailer, the tires would get closer together. Especially true if weight is added from mid section to rear of trailer. I did find two bubbles on the inside of the driver rear tire while looking around. I get my new tires on Thursday before I head to San Antonio for the weekend.
