Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Is installing a slideout cover a do-it-yourself job or should we pay to have it installed?  My husband is fairly handy aound the house.

With all the folks on this site one would be willing to bet that someone out there has an answer to this question - come-on folks give some feed back - I'd like to know the answer as well!!! No question should go un-answered especially with all the talent on this site.

Slide out covers are not too difficult to install. You may need some help holding everything in place though.

3 of us installed covers on 4 slide outs on a 5th wheel trailer in about 8 to 10 hours, and we took breaks.

Our motor home came with fabric patio awning and slide out covers. We added matching window awnings. The only problem we have had is the large slide one began to rip out of where it was anchored into the track. We thought we would have to replace it. We were on vacation in Myrtle Beach so called a couple of places there. One guy came to look at it and said he could fix it. He took it down and the stitching was all rotted. For a small fee he restitched the whole thing and fixed it. We were happy to not have to buy a whole new topper. I'm not sure if vinyl could be repaired like that or not.
