Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hello,,My wife and I are thinking about this life style when we retire in a few yrs. I am certain this question has been addressed here, if so I can be directed to the spot,,but how is the year-round RVing lifestyle COST, compared to the traditional, fixed home yearly costof living?. I realize there are probably too many variables involved to make a general comparison,,but I am just wondering off hand. Thanks,,Just Curious..
From our short experience (we have been full timing a little over 6 months) I would say that we are spending about 85-90 percent of the amount we spent before we went fulltime. Now mind you we are spending the money differently i.e. more on gas and deisel less on home repairs, utilities
Hello. If you look at the "Financial" tab on the home page of this website, Howard and Linda provide several years' worth of financial data/living expenses. It looks rather detailed, so it may give you a good idea of what to expect. Good luck in your research.

About five years ago, I checked our home budget and found that we were paying 67% of our combined income, on the house. Taxes. Lawn and pool, etc, etc.
My wife and I decided that we were working for the house! Long hours at work only to have a nice place to sleep.
Overall, we are living at about $1500.00 per month LESS now. We are at about $3000.00 per month compared with $4500.00 per month in our regular house, and we don't have to work!
My wife's motto: "This is better."

The short answer: It costs as much as you are able to spend. Just like living in a house The longer answer: I am not currently full-time, but I have been in the past and will be in the future. When we did it 5 years ago, our rig was paid off, we paid $350 a month for our space, electricity, water, trash, a pool, hot tub, gym. $350 is probably what we spend on just utilities now. So we saved $1200 a month that we currently pay for our mortgage. Also, you can't buy many extras - you won't have room. I am sure for us that is around $100-200 a month. We currently pay $50 a month to use the pool at the Y. We own more clothes than we could in the rig ($100 a month maybe - for the 3 of us.) I think we easily spent $1500 less a month. And b/c we worked full-time, had a kid in school, etc, we didn't spend extra on travel. When we do it in the future we will definitely have a nicer rig, and travel more - all which will cost more.
