Many do ask permission. I do not since there is a public invitation by Wal-Mart for RV's to overnight if they like and there are no local rules forbidding it. If you are not allowed to stay the signs will be well posted that overnight camping is forbidden. Sometimes the store was required by locals to post these signs. It's still worth asking management if this is your desired overnight stop as they may still give you permission. It's best just to ask at the service desk rather than bother the store manager. This is not a "camp site" but rather used as a convenient overnight so please don't abuse the offer. At several of the Wal-Marts we have stayed we were approached by security to let us know we were welcome, ensure we were in the right location or that the store had a 2-3 day parking limit.

We just stayed at one last night for the first time. We arrived after the store was closed. There were a few tractor trailers in the parking lot also. So we just pulled in and slept for a few hrs. We didnt put out our slides.

You can pick up a road atlas at walmart that list all the stores including Sams' club and there addresses and phone numbers.

One quick point, the road atlas (at least my 2012 edition) doesn't list the phone numbers of the various Walmarts and Sams clubs. It does give the addresses and what services are available. It also does not have the stores marked on the map- THAT would be handy!

If you call the phone number on your last sales slip, the operator will get you the number of which ever store you would like.

ok, stupid question. We are verrrrry new at this. Just got the 5er last weekend and just spent our first 2 nights in it at a local rv park. we are super excited. eventually we will take a trip out west and know that we will want to stop for a night just for a nights sleep at Walmart etc.

We do not have a generator. Can we put out our slides and maybe run a few lights just off of our 5er battery?

If the battery is in good shape, there is no reason you can't make it a couple of days on just the RV battery. Since it is a new rig, you should have no problems at all. I would be careful and be judicious in how many lights you have on though. Be sure you disconnect the truck for the night (electrical plug only) so you can be sure of a start in the morning. If the RV battery is discharged, a few minutes of the truck running connected will juice up the RV battery enough to run in the slide.
